Appliances and white goods

Accepted with preparation

White goods such as washers, dryers and hot water tanks are collected by arrangement with the Solid Waste Division, and a refrigerator, air conditioning unit or freezer is picked up with the CFCs removed for a higher published rate.

City cost & eligibility
From $27 per large appliance on a scheduled special pickup, from 27.00 for a washer, dryer or hot water tank up to 85.00 for a refrigerator, air conditioning unit or freezer because the CFCs are removed. City residential solid waste customers arranging the pickup with the Solid Waste Division on 406-771-1401.
When & how
Call the Solid Waste Division on 406-771-1401 to arrange the pickup, then set the appliance out for the day that is booked.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit, keep it out of the rollout container because white goods are barred from it, and expect the higher rate when the appliance holds refrigerant that has to be recovered.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Bulky items go beside the container, never inside it

The rollout container takes household rubbish only, and the city bars bulky items, yard waste, propane bottles and containers, and liquids such as paint and other solvents from it. A couch or another large piece is set at the curb 2 to 3 feet from the container on the regular collection day, where a separate brush truck picks up the extra items, and yard waste and bundled branches go out 4 feet from the container on the same day.

Containers go out after 6 pm and no later than 7 am

Containers may be placed out after 6 pm the evening before collection but no later than 7 am on the collection day, and they have to be taken back off the public right of way afterwards. Collection days vary by area of town, and the Solid Waste Office confirms the day on 406-771-1401. City code also requires all garbage in residential containers to be wrapped in paper or plastic, and extraordinary accumulations go in containers no bigger than 32 gallons.

White goods and drop boxes carry published rates, bulky extras do not

The city's rate schedule sets special pickup charges only for white goods, at 27.00 for a large appliance and 85.00 for a large appliance with Freon, while a bulky item set out with the regular collection carries no separate rate unless a large accumulation takes longer than two minutes to load, when the city may charge 12.00 per minute. Extra pickup of a 96 gallon container is 24.00 and a 300 gallon container is 34.00. A remodel load goes in a city drop box instead, priced per pick-up from 81.00 for a 3 yard construction dumpster up to 569.00 for a 40 yard container, each plus rental fees and disposal by weight.

Arrange a white goods pickup with the city

A household replacing a washer, dryer, hot water tank, refrigerator, air conditioner or freezer.

Cost & conditions
From $27 per large appliance on a scheduled special pickup, from 27.00 for a washer, dryer or hot water tank up to 85.00 where the appliance holds Freon and the CFCs are removed. City residential solid waste customers arranging the pickup with the Solid Waste Division.
Arrange it
Call the Solid Waste Division on 406-771-1401 to book the pickup, then set the appliance out on the day that is arranged.

A household with electronics, batteries, bulbs, metals, an appliance or propane bottles to recycle rather than throw away.

Cost & conditions
Staples is listed as free tech recycling, Batteries and Bulbs charges a fee to recycle, Steel Etc. charges 25.00 to remove Freon from a refrigerator or freezer before it is accepted, and Pacific Steel refuses CRTs and flat screens, so confirm the item and the cost with each business.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Great Falls collects everything curbside, so self haul starts with the things the city will not take. Yard waste can be bagged at the curb or driven to the High Plains Landfill at 142 Powerline Road in Floweree, which is open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 5 pm and Saturday from 7 am to 3:30 pm and can impose a 10.00 fine on an unsecured load. Household chemicals wait for the Hazardous Waste Collection Day that the city runs with Veolia, with the next event in the spring of 2027 at the corner of 1st St. S and 3rd Ave. S, where antifreeze, gasoline, paint thinner, shellac, fertilizer, pesticides and cleaners are taken but latex paint and mercury are not, and where the truck may fill before the event closes. Propane bottles go to Breen Oil Company on 2201 NW Bypass free of charge, and latex paint can be dried with kitty litter or sand, bagged and put in the regular garbage container. Electronics and metals go to the local network: Staples for free tech recycling, Batteries and Bulbs for batteries and portable devices at a fee, Pacific Steel and Steel Etc. for metals and appliances, with Freon evacuated first and no CRTs or flat screens accepted at the metal yards. A construction or remodel load goes in a city drop box priced per pick-up, not in the residential container. City recycling page listing the local drop-off network with addresses, hours and accepted materials, including Staples free tech recycling, Batteries and Bulbs with a fee, Breen Oil for propane, Pacific Steel for scrap metal and appliances with electronic scrap except CRTs and flat screens, Steel Etc. with a Freon removal cost, Republic Services curbside recycling, the High Plains Landfill yard waste hours and load securing fine, and the reusable goods charitiesCity hazardous waste collection day page with the Veolia partnership, the spring 2027 event timing, the 1st St. S and 3rd Ave. S venue and 9am to 1pm window, the warning that the truck may fill, the refusal of commercial waste, latex paint and mercury, the accepted household chemical examples, the paint drying route and the Environmental Division contactCity residential collection page with the June 2026 rates, the extra pickup and per minute charges, the yard waste and branch set out rules, the white goods special pickup and CFC rates, the container set out times, the container prohibition list with the paint drying and propane routing advice, and the brush truck pickup of bulky items and leaf sacksCity solid waste rate schedule resolution 10573 appendix A effective June 1 2026 with the residential and commercial rates, the special pickup rates for large appliances with and without Freon, the drop box construction dumpster rates per pick-up, the rental and dry run fees and the disposal agreement note

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Great Falls.

How much does appliance removal cost in Great Falls?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Great Falls?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

How does Great Falls collect an appliance?

White goods are collected by arrangement rather than on the normal container route. Call the Solid Waste Division on 406-771-1401, and the published rates are 27.00 for a washer, dryer or hot water tank and 85.00 for a refrigerator, air conditioning unit or freezer, where the CFCs are removed. Unit rates are set in the city's solid waste rate schedule.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Great Falls?

The city does, through the Public Works Solid Waste Division, with collection days set by area of town and confirmed on 406-771-1401. The residential rate effective June 1, 2026 is 20.20 a month for a single family home, with containers placed out after 6 pm the evening before and no later than 7 am on the collection day.Official guidance

How do I get rid of a large item in Great Falls?

Bulky items are barred from the rollout container, so they go beside it: set the piece 2 to 3 feet from the container near the curb on the regular collection day and a separate brush truck picks up the extra items. White goods are different and have to be booked on 406-771-1401, at 27.00 for a washer, dryer or hot water tank and 85.00 where an appliance holds Freon.Official guidance

What will Great Falls not take in the container?

Bulky items, yard waste, propane bottles and containers, and liquids such as paint and other solvents are all barred from the container, and construction material belongs in a city drop box instead. Paint can be dried with kitty litter or sand, bagged and placed in a regular container, propane bottles go to Breen Oil Company, and the remaining household chemicals go to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day, which refuses latex based paint and mercury.Official guidance
