Concord collects appliances with the bulky route, including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and other Freon units, and the county landfill and the ReStore add two more free routes for a working machine.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. The city's bulky collection takes appliances at no published per-item charge, the Cabarrus County Landfill lists scrap metal and appliances among the items with no drop-off charge, and Habitat Cabarrus ReStore takes working appliances under 15 years old as a free donation.
When & how
Set the appliance at the curb by 6 a.m. on the recycling collection day, or drop it at the county landfill, which is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Get it ready
Empty all food from a refrigerator or freezer before it leaves the house. Freon-containing units, stoves, ranges, dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers and water heaters are all on the city's bulky list, and a unit with wheels can be rolled to the collection vehicle instead of dismantled.
Furniture, appliances, carpet and padding and small amounts of construction debris go curbside 2 feet away from the roll-out carts, clear of low overhead lines, parked cars and other impediments. Loose bulky material goes in clear plastic bags, and a personal container used for disposal has to be marked Throw Away or it is left at the curb.

No charge. Bulky waste and the separate e-waste collection are part of the residential service, collected bi-weekly on the recycling day, with no published per-item charge inside the limit of 10 cubic yards of bulky waste or 6 cubic yards of bulky waste plus 4 cubic yards of construction debris.
Arrange it
Put the items at the curb by 6 a.m. on the recycling collection day, 2 feet from the carts and clear of obstructions, and call Customer Care at 704-920-5555 with questions about a particular item.
Items too heavy for two people must be dismantled, individual items are capped at 65 pounds unless they roll, tires are limited to two collections a year and eight tires per collection, and anything encased in concrete is refused. A pile above the city's volume limit becomes a paid roll-off container.

Crews do not enter the home, so items go in a garage, on the porch or at the curb, and apartment donations have to be in the first-floor breezeway. ReStore cannot take mattresses, box springs, sleeper sofas, tube televisions, desktop computers, printers, dishwashers or appliances over 15 years old.
The self-haul route for this address is Cabarrus County, and the same landfill on Irish Potato Road takes both kinds of load. Household and yard waste goes by the bag or by the pickup or trailer with a published per-load fee, and construction and demolition debris goes by weight with its own schedule, subject to a state disposal tax, and only credit or debit cards are accepted with no cash.
