Get it ready
Empty the unit and keep it clean, remove or secure the doors where the hauler asks, and leave the appliance where the hauler can reach it without blocking the carts or a sidewalk. A refrigerator or freezer holding refrigerant stays intact until it is collected.

One item is $25.00 up to the size of a standard couch up to 84 inches, two to five items are $50.00, and each appliance is $25.00. The pickup is scheduled and paid for in advance with Waste Pro, and the items are collected on the regular trash day.

A single large bulky item such as a sofa, chair, table or mattress set is free with the free blue resident entry sticker, a bulky load under three cubic yards is $15 per unit, construction and demolition material is $25 per unit, and a weighed load runs $65 per ton with a $22 minimum for bulky waste and a $26 minimum for construction material. Items are priced separately: computers other than laptops $10, laptops free, tires free for the first five and then per tire, and household hazardous waste free to county residents.

Get the free blue resident entry sticker from the fee booth at Foxhole, Hickory Grove, North Mecklenburg or Compost Central, then use whichever center suits the load. The town lists four sites open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., including 8007 Pence Road in Charlotte as the closest to Matthews.
Mecklenburg County households only, and no business material is accepted with household hazardous waste. Residential customers are limited to two televisions per visit each month, a maximum of 15 automotive or light truck tires is accepted per load without prior approval, a full-service site takes no more than 14 cubic yards with larger loads going to the Foxhole Landfill, and uncovered loads may have fees raised by 50 percent.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
Who collects garbage and bulk items in Matthews?+
