A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

City roll carts for garbage and recycling

Accepted with preparation

The city collects household garbage and recycling in city provided roll carts, with garbage bagged in the gray lid cart and recyclables loose in the blue lid cart.

City cost & eligibility
The city does not publish a sanitation rate on these pages and states only that the water account includes the fees for sanitation pickup, so call the Public Works Department on 910-875-5031 or City Hall on 910-875-8161 and confirm the current charge for the account.
When & how
Collection follows the East Side or West Side schedule depending on which side of Main Street the address is on, with the Gates Farm subdivision on the East side schedule. Drivers begin their routes at 3 a.m., so carts should be out no later than the night before the service day.
Get it ready
Bag all garbage and put it in the gray lid cart, put recyclables loose in the blue lid cart without bags, break down every cardboard box, place the cart with the handle facing the house at least four feet from any other object with 20 feet of overhead clearance on level ground with the lid closed, and bring the cart in by the end of the service day because a cart left at the roadside may draw a daily civil penalty.

Bulky household items

Special rules apply

The city publishes no curbside bulky item service, so bulky household material goes to the county transfer station and is priced by weight.

City cost & eligibility
From $52.75 per ton of municipal solid waste at the Hoke County Transfer Station, where a waste stream not covered by the availability fee is assessed at the station and the load is weighed. A household delivering the load to the county Transfer Station at 700 C.C. Steele Road. The city collects household garbage and recycling in roll carts and does not publish a bulky item pickup, so there is no curbside route to claim.
When & how
Take the load to the Hoke County Transfer Station at 700 C.C. Steele Road from Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with Saturday limited to yard debris and recyclables.
Get it ready
Keep bulky household items out of the roll carts because garbage goes in the gray lid cart bagged and the recycling cart refuses appliances, furniture, wood and wood products, secure the load before the trip, and separate any metal item that is better handled through the recyclable stream at the same station.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Cart placement decides whether it is emptied

The cart goes at the curb with the handle facing the house, at least four feet away from every other object including the other cart, with 20 feet of overhead clearance, on level ground, with the lid completely closed. Recyclables go in the blue lid cart loose and never bagged, cardboard has to be broken down so the mechanical arm can empty the cart, and the cart comes off the curb by the end of the service day because a cart left at the roadside may be charged a daily civil penalty.

City sanitation page with the cart rules, the placement and penalty provisions, the acceptable and refused recycling lists, the yard debris rules and fees and the construction debris exclusion

Routes start at 3 a.m. on a side of Main Street

Collection runs on an East Side or West Side schedule divided by Main Street, with the Gates Farm subdivision following the East side. Because drivers start their routes at 3 a.m., the cart has to be at the curb no later than the night before the service day rather than the morning of it.

City sanitation page with the cart rules, the placement and penalty provisions, the acceptable and refused recycling lists, the yard debris rules and fees and the construction debris exclusionCity public works page naming the sanitation department as responsible for household and business garbage and recycling and listing the department location

Contractor debris stays with the contractor

Construction debris and debris created by a contractor must be disposed of by the contractor or the homeowner, and the city does not pick up those items. A tree cut down on the property is the same: the owner or the contractor is responsible for removing it completely, and pickup can be arranged only for a fee through the Public Works Director.

City of Raeford Public Works Sanitation Department with the Hoke County Solid Waste Transfer Station and convenience sites

Use the city roll cart collection

A City of Raeford household with household garbage and recyclables to set out each week.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no sanitation rate and states only that the water account includes the fees for sanitation pickup, so call Public Works on 910-875-5031 or City Hall on 910-875-8161 and confirm the current charge.
Arrange it
Use the city provided 90 gallon roll cart for each stream, follow the East Side or West Side schedule for the address, and report a problem to the Public Works Department at 701 S. Main Street or on 910-875-5031.

Only household garbage and recyclables belong in the carts, the recycling cart refuses appliances, furniture, wood and wood products, a cart left at the roadside may be charged a daily penalty, and a household that cannot place the cart at the curb because of a medical or physical disability needs an approved waiver and the applicant's name on the water account.

City of Raeford Public Works Sanitation Department with the Hoke County Solid Waste Transfer Station and convenience sites

Self haul to the Hoke County Transfer Station

A household with bulky household material, construction or contractor debris, or a load that the city will not collect.

Cost & conditions
From $52.75 per ton of municipal solid waste, which is also the rate for construction and demolition debris, with yard waste at 19 dollars per ton and inert debris such as rocks, bricks and concrete at 19 dollars per ton. A household bringing the load to the Transfer Station at 700 C.C. Steele Road, where a waste stream not covered by the annual availability fee is delivered and assessed the appropriate charge and the load is priced by weight.
Arrange it
Take the load to 700 C.C. Steele Road during the posted hours, keep the waste streams separate so each is priced at its own rate, and call 910-875-3111 with a question about how a load is weighed or charged.

The Saturday window takes residential yard debris and recyclables only, the county publishes no minimum charge so the price depends on weight, and construction debris and debris created by a contractor never goes out with the city roll carts.

Drop recyclables at the county

A household with scrap metal, white goods, aluminum cans, tires, car or lithium-ion batteries, electronics or plastic bottles.

Cost & conditions
The county transfer station takes scrap metal, white goods, electronics, tires, car batteries and lithium-ion batteries as recyclable items and the convenience sites take a narrower list, but the county publishes no charge for that recyclable stream, so confirm the current terms on 910-875-3111 before loading.
Arrange it
Take the material to the Transfer Station at 700 C.C. Steele Road during its posted hours, or to a county convenience site, and keep each stream separate because the two locations take different lists.

The convenience sites take tires only four per day and car batteries only one per day, electronics there are limited to televisions no larger than 25 inches, lithium-ion batteries are banned from landfills and incinerators and have a designated drop off, and the city recycling cart still refuses appliances, furniture, wood and wood products.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

A Raeford household that hauls its own load uses the Hoke County Transfer Station at 700 C.C. Steele Road, the place where any waste stream not covered by the county availability fee is delivered and assessed its charge. Municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris share one per ton rate, yard waste and inert debris such as rocks, bricks and concrete have their own lower per ton rates, and the load is priced by weight because no minimum is published. The transfer station also takes a recyclable stream: aluminum cans, automobile and truck tires, car batteries, lithium-ion batteries and devices, electronics including televisions of any size, plastic bottles, scrap metal, white goods such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioning units and water heaters, and used cooking oil. Five convenience sites take a narrower list of aluminum cans, automobile tires capped at four per day, car batteries capped at one per day, electronics with televisions no larger than 25 inches, plastic bottles and scrap metal. The transfer station opens Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Saturday limited to residential yard debris and recyclables, the convenience sites open Monday through Saturday, and all county sites close for county holidays. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Raeford.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Raeford?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

How does the Raeford roll cart service work?

Household garbage and recycling are collected in city provided roll carts on an East Side or West Side schedule based on which side of Main Street the address is on. Garbage must be bagged in the gray lid cart, recyclables go loose in the blue lid cart with cardboard broken down, and the cart is placed with the handle toward the house, at least four feet from other objects, on level ground, with the lid closed and the route starting at 3 a.m. A cart left at the roadside may be charged a daily civil penalty, and the applicant's name has to be on the water account, which includes the sanitation fee.Official guidance

Does Raeford collect bulky items at the curb?

The city publishes a roll cart program for household garbage and recycling and no bulky item pickup, and the recycling cart refuses appliances, furniture, wood and wood products. Bulky household material therefore goes to the Hoke County Transfer Station at 700 C.C. Steele Road, where municipal solid waste is charged per ton by weight and a waste stream not covered by the annual availability fee is assessed at the station. The station is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the county solid waste office answers on 910-875-3111.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Raeford?

The City of Raeford Public Works Sanitation Department collects household garbage and recycling from city addresses in city provided roll carts, on an East Side or West Side schedule divided by Main Street, with the department at 701 S. Main Street and reachable on 910-875-5031. Anything the city does not collect, including construction material and bulky household items, goes to the Hoke County Transfer Station at 700 C.C. Steele Road, whose solid waste office answers on 910-875-3111.Official guidance

What does Raeford charge for collection and drop off?

The city does not publish a sanitation rate and says only that the water account includes the fees for sanitation pickup, so that amount is confirmed with Public Works on 910-875-5031 or City Hall on 910-875-8161. A yard debris pickup over three cubic yards is charged per load and must be paid before collection. At the county, municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris are charged by the ton with a lower per ton rate for yard waste and inert debris, and the recyclable stream that includes scrap metal and white goods carries no published charge.Official guidance

What will the city not collect in Raeford?

The recycling cart refuses tissues and paper towels, food contaminated material such as pizza boxes and meat trays, styrofoam in any form, cellophane and saran wrap, paint cans unless the paint is completely dried, ink cartridges, batteries, photographic film and x-rays, clothing and rags, and appliances, furniture, wood or wood products. The city also refuses construction debris and any debris created by a contractor, which the contractor or homeowner has to dispose of, and it publishes no curbside bulky item service, so those loads go to the county transfer station instead.Official guidance
