A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Mattresses and box springs

Accepted with preparation

A mattress is named in the city's bulky waste examples, so it is collected at the curb after the resident asks for the pickup. Bulky collection is part of the monthly solid waste service rather than a separate bill.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Bulky item collection such as furniture and appliances is included in the $23.50 monthly solid waste fee every residential household pays on its utility bill. The county landfill and the Landfill Road and Sims convenience centers also take mattresses at no charge for holders of a valid user permit.
When & how
Call 252-399-2424 or file a request in the Fix-It Wilson app, then set the mattress behind the curb before the pickup. The city asks that items be placed out before the request is made.
Get it ready
Put the mattress behind the curb and keep it clear of trees, parked vehicles, mailboxes and other obstructions. Do not set it on top of a water meter or utility box, and keep it dry so the crew can lift it.

Couches, sofas and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Couches, chairs, tables and bed frames are named in the city's bulky waste examples and are picked up at the curb on request. Small furniture and loose items can also go out on the Wednesday trash day.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Bulky collection is inside the $23.50 monthly solid waste fee billed on the utility bill, and the county convenience centers and landfill take furniture at no charge for permit holders. Small furniture that fits a bag or a loose pile also rides with the Wednesday overflow collection at no added cost.
When & how
Call 252-399-2424 or use the Fix-It Wilson app for the curb pickup, or set small furniture out for the Wednesday collection with everything behind the curb before 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Keep the piece out of the street and off the sidewalk, away from fire hydrants, mailboxes, water meters and utility boxes, and leave it dry. Keep loose cushions and small parts bagged so they are not scattered before the crew arrives.

Appliances and white goods

Accepted with preparation

Appliances and other white goods are named in the city's bulky waste examples, with water heaters and air conditioners among the city's own examples, so the unit is collected at the curb on request rather than going in a cart.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Appliance pickup is part of the $23.50 monthly solid waste fee on the utility bill, and the county convenience centers accept appliances and white goods for permit holders. Wilson city households are outside the county solid waste district, so county access runs through the temporary permit.
When & how
Request the pickup at 252-399-2424 or through the Fix-It Wilson app, and set the appliance behind the curb beforehand. No appliance appointment is described beyond the bulky request.
Get it ready
Empty the unit, secure or remove any door that could trap a child, and keep it behind the curb away from obstructions and off water meters and utility boxes. The city publishes no refrigerant instruction, so mention a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner when you call and confirm how it should be prepared.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Televisions are named in the city's white goods examples and the county convenience centers accept electronics including computers and televisions, so screens have a curbside route by request and a drop-off route.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. A television rides with the bulky collection that the $23.50 monthly solid waste fee already covers. The county centers list electronics as an acceptable item and publish no per item charge, but access needs a valid user permit, and Wilson city households are outside the solid waste district that gets the $45 availability fee.
When & how
Request the curb pickup at 252-399-2424 or in the Fix-It Wilson app, or take the equipment to a county convenience center, which is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep screens dry and whole, have someone help with the lift, and erase personal data before a computer leaves the house. Televisions and computers belong with the bulky or county drop-off route rather than in a recycling cart, and glass, dishes and window glass are excluded from the county glass containers.

Construction and remodeling debris

Not on the regular city route

City ordinance puts construction and remodeling debris on the homeowner or the contractor, and city crews will not collect it, including shingles, concrete, dirt and stumps. The county landfill is the published destination and charges by the ton.

City cost & eligibility
From $43 per ton of construction and demolition debris at the Wilson County Landfill, a figure that includes the $2.00 per ton solid waste tax imposed by the State of North Carolina. Cash, check or credit card is accepted at the landfill with no American Express. The county publishes separate per ton rates for mixed solid waste, yard waste, land clearing debris, asbestos and tires on the same rate page, and those amounts are set by the county rather than the city.
When & how
Take the load to the Wilson County Landfill at 2400 Hwy 42 E, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residential customers can also bring small loads of construction debris from their residence on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep construction debris separate from household garbage, yard waste and anything flammable, and expect the load to be weighed. Roofing shingles, concrete, rocks, gravel, dirt, sod and stumps are all on the city's refused list, and propane tanks, gasoline and hot ashes stay out of the truck entirely.

Exercise equipment

Special rules apply

An exercise machine is not named in the city's bulky examples, so the pickup is confirmed with the sanitation office before the machine goes to the curb. If it counts as bulky waste, the collection is covered by the monthly solid waste fee.

City cost & eligibility
Bulky collection is included in the $23.50 monthly solid waste fee, but the city's published examples cover furniture, appliances, long limbs and tires rather than exercise machines. Call 252-399-2424 or file a request in the Fix-It Wilson app and confirm that the machine is collected before setting it out.
When & how
Confirm the item first, then place it behind the curb before the requested pickup. Small items and loose pieces can also ride with the Wednesday overflow collection if they fit that route.
Get it ready
Break the machine down as far as it comes apart, remove loose weights and the console so the frame is light enough for two people, and keep everything clear of trees, parked vehicles, mailboxes, water meters and utility boxes.

Bulky items and clean-outs

Accepted with preparation

Bulky waste is anything that will not fit a garbage truck or needs special handling, and the city picks it up on request as part of the monthly solid waste service. Wednesday collection handles overflow and small items, and Spring Clean-Up Week waives the usual rules once a year.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Bulky item collection is covered by the $23.50 monthly solid waste fee billed on the utility bill, which also pays for household garbage, compost and recycling. Excessive yard waste and special arrangements are the items the city says may involve added cost, and a second roll-out container costs $50.
When & how
Call 252-399-2424 or file a request in the Fix-It Wilson app, place the items behind the curb first, and use the Wednesday collection for bagged overflow and small loose items set out before 7 a.m.
Get it ready
Keep items behind the curb and clear of trees, parked vehicles, mailboxes, fire hydrants, water meters and utility boxes, and bag anything loose. Boxes and cardboard, motor oil in a clear sealed container, used cooking oil, dried latex paint and batteries are handled as special requests rather than as ordinary bulky waste.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Bulky pickups start with a phone call or a request

Nothing bulky is collected automatically. Residents call 252-399-2424 or file a service request in the Fix-It Wilson app, and the city asks that the items be placed behind the curb before the request is made so the crew can see them.

Collection and disposal page with the bulky waste definition, the accepted and refused item lists, Wednesday trash day and the special request itemsEnvironmental services FAQ with the monthly solid waste fee and the container placement rules

Behind the curb and clear of obstructions

Items go behind the curb and away from trees, parked vehicles, mailboxes, fire hydrants, signs and utility poles, and never on top of a water meter or utility box. Roll-out containers sit with the handles facing the house and at least three feet from obstructions, and containers are set out by 7 a.m. and brought back in within 24 hours.

Wednesday handles overflow and small items

Wednesday is the city's trash day for bagged household garbage, small furniture and loose items that will not fit the roll-out container. Roll-out containers are not serviced on Wednesdays outside designated areas, yard waste is not collected that day, and junk normally collected at the curb on Wednesdays is skipped during holiday schedule weeks.

Spring Clean-Up Week waives the usual rules

The last full week of April is Spring Clean-Up Week, when the normal collection rules are waived except that car frames and construction debris are still not picked up. Residents do not need to call during that week, removal can take several weeks when participation is heavy, and immediate removal means hauling the material to the county landfill.

Request a city bulky item pickup

A household inside the city limits with furniture, a mattress, an appliance, a television, long limbs or tires that will not fit the roll-out container.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Bulky item collection is included in the $23.50 monthly solid waste fee that every residential household pays on its utility bill, alongside household garbage, compost and recycling.
Arrange it
Call 252-399-2424 or file the request in the Fix-It Wilson app, then place the items behind the curb clear of trees, parked vehicles, mailboxes, water meters and utility boxes. Wednesday is the day for bagged overflow and small loose items, set out before 7 a.m.

City ordinance keeps automobile parts, roofing shingles, construction and remodeling debris, dirt and sod, concrete, rocks and gravel, flammables such as gasoline and tanks, hot ashes, animal waste, furnaces and stumps with the homeowner or contractor. Excessive yard waste may also carry added cost, and a second roll-out container costs $50.

Haul it to the Wilson County Landfill

A household told to remove construction, remodeling, land clearing or bulky material that city crews will not collect, or a resident who wants a load gone the same day.

Cost & conditions
From $43 per ton of construction and demolition debris, which the county states includes the $2.00 per ton state solid waste tax, with separate published per ton rates for mixed solid waste, yard waste, land clearing debris, asbestos and tires. Payment is by cash, check or credit card with no American Express, and loads are weighed at the scale. Residential customers may bring small loads of construction debris from their residence on Saturday morning.
Arrange it
Drive to 2400 Hwy 42 E, east of the city next to the Wilson County Animal Shelter, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for residential loads, and bring the material separated.

The landfill closes on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Only residential customers may bring household trash, small residential construction loads and yard waste on Saturday, and commercial loads follow their own terms.

Use a county convenience center with a permit

A household with white goods, a television or computer, scrap tires up to five off the rim, cardboard, cooking oil or bulky furniture, mattress or yard waste to drop off.

Cost & conditions
The county publishes no per item charge for these materials, so the cost to confirm is the permit. A district household pays $45 a year through the solid waste availability fee on its tax bill, while a household outside the district, which includes the city, buys a temporary permit that renews annually. Call Wilson County Solid Waste Services at 252-399-2823 to confirm the current permit and what it covers.
Arrange it
Display a valid user permit, load the material yourself, and use a center in the county district Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. or Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Landfill Road and Sims are the centers that take bulky items.

Incorporated towns and cities are not inside the solid waste district, so city households need the temporary permit rather than the district's availability fee. Commercial and industrial waste is not accepted at the centers, three named centers close on Wednesdays, and every center closes Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

See the permit and center rules

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Wilson means two very different destinations depending on the material. Bulky items such as mattresses, furniture, appliances, televisions, long limbs and tires are still the city's job, collected at the curb after a call to 252-399-2424 or a request in the Fix-It Wilson app, and the pickup is covered by the monthly solid waste fee. What the city will not take goes to the county: construction and demolition debris, land clearing material, mixed waste and yard waste go to the Wilson County Landfill at 2400 Hwy 42 E, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with Saturday morning for residential loads, weighed and paid by cash, check or credit card with construction and demolition debris charged by the ton. White goods, electronics, scrap tires up to five off the rim, cardboard, cooking oil, bulky furniture, mattresses and yard waste can go to the county convenience centers, including the Landfill Road and Sims sites, but only with a valid user permit, and because the city is not inside the county solid waste district a city household asks about the temporary permit rather than the district fee. Used motor oil, antifreeze and oil filters go to the landfill. Wilson County Landfill

2400 Hwy 42 E, Wilson, NC 27893

Construction and demolition debris, land clearing and inert debris, mixed solid waste from businesses and residences, residential and commercial yard waste, scrap tires, asbestos, and used motor oil, antifreeze and oil filters

Loads are weighed and paid for at the scale by cash, check or credit card with no American Express. Construction and demolition debris carries a per ton fee that includes the state solid waste tax, and the county publishes separate per ton rates for mixed solid waste, yard waste, land clearing debris, asbestos, tires and commingled recycling. The landfill is closed on its published holidays.

Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. limited to residential customers bringing household trash, small residential construction loads and yard waste.

From $43 per ton of construction and demolition debris, including the state solid waste tax, with higher and lower published per ton rates for mixed solid waste, asbestos, tires, land clearing debris, yard waste and commingled recycling. Payment is by cash, check or credit card at the scale with no American Express. Rates are set by Wilson County rather than the city, and Saturday access is limited to residential loads.

County drop-off centers with a user permit

Wilson County Convenience Centers

Landfill Road and Sims centers take bulky items, with thirteen centers across the Wilson County Solid Waste District

Household garbage, appliances and white goods, recyclables, corrugated cardboard, scrap tires up to five off the rim, electronics including computers and televisions, used cooking oil, used glass bottles and jars, large bulky items such as mattresses and furniture at the Landfill Road and Sims centers, yard waste at those same centers, and clean functional clothing and shoes for the donation bins

Only household solid waste from district residents with a valid user permit, and commercial or industrial waste is refused and directed to the landfill. Glass bottles and jars go in the separate glass containers, and dishes, cups, drinking glasses, window glass and windshield glass do not. Three named centers close on Wednesdays, and all centers close Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., except the named centers that close Wednesdays.

The county publishes no per item charge for these materials. The permit is the cost to confirm: $45 a year is charged to a district household through the solid waste availability fee, non-district residents buy a temporary permit that renews annually, and Wilson city households are outside the district. Call 252-399-2823 to confirm the current permit and coverage.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Wilson.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Wilson?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.

Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?

Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

How does a mattress get picked up in Wilson?

Call 252-399-2424 or submit a service request in the Fix-It Wilson app, then place the mattress behind the curb. Mattresses are named in the city's bulky waste examples, the pickup is part of the monthly solid waste service, and the item needs to be clear of trees, parked cars, mailboxes, water meters and utility boxes.Official guidance

Can I take a mattress to the county instead?

Yes. Large bulky items such as mattresses and furniture can go to the convenience centers on Landfill Road or in Sims, or to the Wilson County Landfill on Highway 42 East, at no charge for holders of a valid user permit. Wilson city households sit outside the county solid waste district, so the permit to ask about is the temporary permit that renews yearly.Official guidance

Will the city take a couch from the curb?

Yes, once the pickup is requested. Sofas, chairs, tables and bed frames are the city's own bulky waste examples, residents call 252-399-2424 or use the Fix-It Wilson app, and the items go behind the curb clear of trees, vehicles, mailboxes and utility boxes.Official guidance

What is picked up on Wednesday in Wilson?

Wednesday is the city's trash day for overflow household garbage and small items that do not fit the roll-out container, including bagged garbage, small furniture and loose items. Everything goes behind the curb before 7 a.m., roll-out containers are not serviced on Wednesdays outside designated areas, and yard waste is not collected that day.Official guidance

Which appliances does the city collect?

The city names appliances and other white goods in its bulky waste examples, with televisions, water heaters and air conditioners listed, and the collection is included in the monthly solid waste fee. Call 252-399-2424 or use the Fix-It Wilson app to schedule the pickup.Official guidance

What do I do with a refrigerator or air conditioner?

Ask when you schedule the pickup. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners sit in the white goods group the city collects, but the city publishes no instruction for removing refrigerant, so confirm how the unit should be emptied and whether the doors have to come off before it goes behind the curb.Official guidance

Does the city collect televisions?

Televisions are named among the appliances and white goods in the city's bulky waste examples, so a set is collected at the curb once the pickup is requested by phone or through the Fix-It Wilson app. Call 252-399-2424 to schedule it and place it behind the curb beforehand.Official guidance

Where can computers and televisions be dropped off?

The Wilson County convenience centers list electronics including computers and televisions as acceptable items alongside household garbage, white goods, scrap tires and recyclables. Access requires a valid user permit, the centers run Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and the county publishes no per item charge.Official guidance

Will the city collect remodeling debris?

No. City ordinance makes construction and remodeling debris, roofing shingles, concrete, rocks, gravel, dirt, sod and stumps the responsibility of the homeowner or the contractor, and city crews will not collect them. The city points residents to the Wilson County Landfill instead.Official guidance

What does construction debris cost at the county landfill?

Construction and demolition debris is charged by the ton at the Wilson County Landfill on Highway 42 East, and the published rate includes the state solid waste tax. Payment is by cash, check or credit card with no American Express, and the county publishes separate rates for mixed solid waste, yard waste and tires on the same page.Official guidance

Does Spring Clean-Up Week take construction debris?

No. The last full week of April is Spring Clean-Up Week, when the normal collection rules are waived, but car frames and construction debris are still not picked up. Residents do not need to call during that week, and the city says immediate removal means hauling the material to the county landfill.Official guidance

Will the city take a treadmill as bulky waste?

Ask first. The city defines bulky waste as items that will not fit a garbage truck or need special handling and lists furniture, appliances, long limbs and tires as examples, without naming exercise equipment. Call 252-399-2424 or use the Fix-It Wilson app to confirm the machine, then put it behind the curb before the pickup.Official guidance

What will Wilson city crews not collect?

Automobile parts, roofing shingles, construction and remodeling debris, dirt and sod, concrete, rocks and gravel, flammables such as gasoline and tanks, hot ashes, animal waste, furnaces and stumps are the homeowner's or contractor's responsibility by ordinance. That material can be taken to the Wilson County Landfill, where a fee may be assessed.Official guidance

What needs a special request instead of a bulky pickup?

Boxes and cardboard, used motor oil in a clear container with a sealable lid, used cooking oil, dried latex paint and batteries are handled as special requests through 252-399-2424 or the Fix-It Wilson app. Flammables such as gasoline and tanks are refused entirely, and hot ashes never go out for collection.Official guidance

What does solid waste service cost in Wilson?

Every residential household pays a $23.50 monthly solid waste fee on its utility bill, and that covers household garbage, compost, recycling and bulky item collection. A second roll-out container for trash or compost costs $50, and a recycling bin damaged beyond use may carry a $50 replacement fee.Official guidance

How do I ask the city for a pickup?

Call the sanitation office at 252-399-2424 or file a service request in the Fix-It Wilson app, and place the items behind the curb before the request so they can be seen from the street. Bulky items, boxes and cardboard, motor oil in a clear sealed container, cooking oil, dried latex paint and batteries all start with that request.Official guidance

When is Wilson's Spring Clean-Up Week?

The last full week of April. The normal collection rules are waived for that week except that car frames and construction debris are still not picked up, and residents do not have to call in. Participation is heavy, removal can take several weeks, and anyone who wants the material gone immediately is told to haul it to the county landfill.Official guidance

Can city residents use the county convenience centers?

Yes, with a permit. Incorporated towns and cities are not inside the Wilson County Solid Waste District, so a city household does not receive the district permit through the tax bill and instead buys a temporary permit that renews annually from Wilson County Solid Waste Services. The centers take white goods, electronics, scrap tires up to five off the rim, cardboard, cooking oil, and bulky furniture or mattresses at the Landfill Road and Sims sites.Official guidance
