City cost & eligibility
No charge. The bulky item cleanup is part of the city sanitation service for single-family homes and the city publishes no per item charge for it, while apartment and business properties are not eligible and a mattress outside the cleanup week goes to the Hanes Mill Road Landfill.
When & how

Get it ready
Keep the mattress separate from yard waste, brush and recyclables, because the city refuses the whole pile if bulky items are mixed with unacceptable material, and keep it inside the single-family cleanup scope rather than at an apartment or business.
Carts go out by 6 a.m. and come back by 8 a.m. the next day
Carts go to the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day, and no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before, with the lift handle facing the street and the lid hinge away from it, and they come back in by 8 a.m. the next day. Only the carts issued by the city can be used, the cart goes at the curb rather than in the street, and it stays three feet from trees, bushes, parked cars and other carts.
All garbage is bagged inside the cart and nothing sits outside it
All garbage has to be bagged in heavy-duty plastic bags and completely contained within the cart with the lid closed, no additional bags may be placed outside the cart, and excess garbage is held for the next week's collection. One 96 gallon trash cart and one recycling cart are provided to residents at no charge, and the city serves single-family households with garbage, recycling, yard waste carts, brush, leaves and the annual bulky cleanup.
The bulky cleanup refuses several categories outright
The city cannot collect construction materials, car parts, cement, electronic waste, glass, hazardous or infectious waste, lumber or wood, oil drums, paint, rocks, tires or yard waste on the bulky cleanup, and a pile that is mixed with unacceptable materials is not collected at all. Bulky items are collected only during the annual neighborhood cleanup, which is for single-family homes, and outside that week the city directs residents to the Hanes Mill Road Landfill at 325 W Hanes Mill Rd.
