From $15 per appliance on a scheduled bulk residential item collection, from 15.00 for a dishwasher, dryer, stove, washer, water heater, water softener, garage furnace, grill or push lawn mower up to 20.00 for a refrigerant item such as a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dehumidifier, on top of the 25.00 pickup service fee. City residential solid waste customers who prepay for the bulk collection, with the appliance no heavier than two people can lift and carry.
When & how
Book the pickup before the published prepay deadline and set the appliance out by 6:00 AM on the collection day, with the October 19 and October 21, November 16 and November 18, and December 14 and December 16 pairs as the remaining 2026 dates.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit, keep it off the weekly can because appliances are excluded from that route, and expect the higher disposal fee whenever the appliance holds refrigerant.
Only what is inside the city-issued can is collected
All trash set out for collection must be inside the city-issued garbage can, and since January 1, 2025 anything placed beside the can is not collected at all. Garbage has to be bagged inside the container, animal waste has to be sealed in a plastic bag, grass trimmings and yard waste have to be bagged and placed into the container, and branches go in only when they are cut into pieces of 2 feet or less. The container has to be out by 6 AM on the collection day and placed three feet away from other containers, poles, signs and mailboxes with the handle facing the house.
The city publishes the list of items that will not be collected on the regular garbage route: appliances and electronics, box springs and mattresses, building material, carpet, concrete, construction and remodeling debris, decks and fences, dirt, furniture items, hazardous waste, oil, propane tanks, rocks, sand, sod and trees. Those items move to the prepaid bulk residential item collection or, for construction material and hazardous waste, to the city landfill.
The bulk collection fee is a service fee plus a fee per item
A prepaid bulk residential item collection starts with a pickup service fee that covers up to five items, and the disposal fee for each item is charged on top from the city's published list. The lower tier covers a bed, box spring, mattress, sofa, chair, recliner, dresser, television, treadmill, dishwasher, dryer, stove, washer, water heater, grill, toilet, small pool and propane tank, the higher tier covers every refrigerant item including a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner and dehumidifier, and a bag or can of leaves, grass or branches is priced separately. Each household is capped at two service fees and ten items a month, the service is prepaid with no refunds, and every item has to be light enough for two people to lift and carry.

$25 for pickup service fee covering up to five items, with the per item disposal fee added on top and a maximum of two service fees and ten items a month. City residential solid waste customers who prepay before the published deadline, with each item light enough for two people to lift and carry.

Call Public Works on 701-355-1700 and select option 3 to prepay and schedule the collection, then set the items at the curb by 6:00 AM on the collection day, with October 21, November 18 and December 16 published as the remaining 2026 pickup days.
Prepaid with no refunds, a two person weight limit, a maximum of five items per service fee and ten items a month, and construction, deck and renovation material is unacceptable.

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own.
