Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Wood, pallets and roofing debris

Special rules apply

Some construction material has a published route and some does not. Wood furniture, wood scraps, painted or treated wood and pallets are collected in the fourth week of the curbside bulky rotation, clean wood is priced by volume at the Recycling Center, and shingles or roofing are outside the city service entirely.

City cost & eligibility
From $15 per load of clean wood at the Portsmouth Recycling Center, where two cubic yards is $15 and four cubic yards is $25, with the curbside bulky pickup adding a $10 pickup fee. Portsmouth residents, paid by credit card with a processing fee or by check with no cash accepted; the city publishes no rate for shingles or roofing because Public Works does not handle that material.
When & how
Wood furniture, wood scraps, painted or treated wood and pallets come curbside in the fourth week of the rotating bulky schedule, booked through Public Works on 603-427-1530 after payment. Clean wood goes to the Recycling Center during its hours, Tuesday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Sort the wood from everything else, because only clean wood carries the volume rate and treated or painted wood travels in the fourth curbside week instead. Take shingles and roofing to Aggregate Recycling Corp in Eliot, Maine on 207-439-5584, since the city states that Public Works is not set up to handle that material, and keep the load inside the weekly 300 gallon limit while it waits for a scheduled pickup.

Bulky curbside collection rotates by material

The curbside bulky weeks are set by material rather than by address. The first week takes upholstered furniture and mixed materials, the second takes appliances and scrap metal including refrigerators and Freon units, the third takes tires, televisions, computers and electronics, and the fourth takes wood furniture, wood scraps, painted or treated wood and pallets. A booking is placed in the week that matches the item, and nothing goes to the curb before Public Works has scheduled it.

Pay before the gate or the pickup, and never in cash

Both bulky routes are paid up front. At the Recycling Center the attendant takes a credit card with a processing fee or a check, and the center does not accept cash, while an online payment before drop-off needs the receipt printed and shown at the gate. For a curbside pickup the item fee is paid through the portal with the $10 pickup fee added and the pickup location entered, and Public Works then schedules the date on 603-427-1530.

Book a curbside bulky pickup

A Portsmouth household serviced by the city that has a couch, an appliance, a mattress, a screen, wood or another bulky item and would rather not haul it.

Cost & conditions
From $10 for the curbside bulky pickup fee of $10 on top of the disposal cost of each item, where a mattress, box spring, washer, dryer, dishwasher, upholstered furniture, wood furniture, gas grill or 20 pound propane tank adds $5, a tire adds $7, a cooking range or electronics item adds $10, a refrigerator or Freon unit adds $20 and clean wood adds $15 or $25 by volume. Portsmouth residents on the city collection route, paid through the payment portal before scheduling; a household served by a private trash hauler is not eligible for curbside pickup and has to use the Recycling Center instead.
Arrange it
Pay the item fee and the pickup fee through the payment portal, check the schedule pickup box and enter the pickup location, then call Public Works on 603-427-1530 to fix the date. The pickup falls in the rotation week for that material, and the item goes out between 7:00 p.m. the day before and 6:00 a.m. on the day.

Nothing goes to the curb without a booking, because unscheduled bulky waste is not collected. The item has to be inside the weekly 300 gallon property limit, kept separate from the regular trash, and matched to the right week of the rotation. Payment is by card or check rather than cash, and a household on a private hauler has no curbside option at all.

Drop bulky items at the Recycling Center

A Portsmouth household with a bulky item, including one served by a private hauler, that can be carried to the Peverly Hill Road site.

Cost & conditions
From $5 for the lowest published bulky waste fee at the Recycling Center, where a mattress, box spring, washer, dryer, dishwasher, upholstered furniture, wood furniture, gas grill or 20 pound propane tank is $5 each, a tire is $7, a cooking range or electronics item is $10, a refrigerator or Freon unit is $20, and clean wood is $15 for two cubic yards or $25 for four. Portsmouth residents, paid at the facility or online before drop-off, by credit card with a processing fee or by check with no cash accepted.
Arrange it
Take the item to the Recycling Center behind the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road during open hours, Tuesday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with extended Tuesday hours to 6:15 p.m. from July 1 to October 9. Pay at the gate or online first and show the receipt at drop-off.

The fee depends on the item, since the list prices furniture and mattresses at the lowest step, ranges and electronics higher, and refrigerators or Freon units at the top because CFC removal is included. Cash is not accepted, and Public Works may discontinue service for violations of the solid waste ordinances.

Take shingles and roofing to Aggregate Recycling Corp

A household or contractor with shingles or roofing material that the city will not take.

Cost & conditions
The city states that Public Works is not set up to handle shingles or roofing and directs the material to Aggregate Recycling Corp in Eliot, Maine on 207-439-5584, and the city page publishes no price for the company, so the rate has to be confirmed directly.
Arrange it
Call the company on 207-439-5584 before loading, and confirm the accepted material, the hours and the price for a roofing load. Keep the material off the curb and out of the bulky pile in the meantime, because the city has no route for it.

This is a private facility outside New Hampshire, so the trip crosses a state line and the terms are set by the company rather than by the city. Clean wood is a different case and can go to the Recycling Center at the published volume rate instead.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Portsmouth means the Recycling Center behind the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road, and it handles both the bulky stream and the awkward odds and ends. Bulky items are priced per piece from the published list, with mattresses, box springs, laundry appliances, dishwashers, upholstered and wood furniture, gas grills and 20 pound propane tanks at the lowest step, tires above that, cooking ranges and electronics higher again, refrigerators and Freon units at the top because CFC removal is included, and clean wood charged by volume at two or four cubic yards. Payment is by credit card with a processing fee or by check, and never in cash, and an online payment has to be made before arrival with the receipt printed for the gate. Several things are free for residents: antifreeze, batteries, clothing, cooking oil and vegetable oil, eyeglasses, fluorescent light bulbs, food waste, oil and oil filters, and empty one pound propane cylinders. Household chemicals are the exception, because the centre does not take them on a normal day; they wait for the twice yearly collection, with the next date published as Saturday October 24, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon, a five gallon container limit and no latex paint. Latex paint has to be hardened all the way through and then brought here as solid waste rather than put at the curb, and shingles and roofing go to a private facility in Eliot, Maine because the city has no route for them. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Portsmouth.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Portsmouth?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Portsmouth?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Where do shingles and roofing go in Portsmouth?

Not to Public Works, because the city states that it is not set up to handle shingles or roofing. The page directs that material to Aggregate Recycling Corp in Eliot, Maine on 207-439-5584. Wood is different, since clean wood is priced by volume at the Recycling Center and wood furniture, wood scraps, painted or treated wood and pallets come curbside in the fourth week of the rotating bulky schedule.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Portsmouth?

The Department of Public Works collects it through its Solid Waste Division, once a week on a neighbourhood schedule Monday through Friday, with recycling on the same round. The recycling center at 680 Peverly Hill Road handles bulky waste, clean wood and the free specialty drop-offs, and Public Works answers on 603-427-1530. Recycling is mandatory for both paper and fiber and containers.Official guidance

What does bulky waste cost in Portsmouth?

It depends on the item and the route. The Recycling Center charges a per item fee from a published list, and a curbside pickup adds a $10 pickup fee on top of that disposal cost. Furniture and mattresses are at the lowest step, tires above them, cooking ranges and electronics higher again, and refrigerators or Freon units at the top because the price includes CFC removal. Clean wood is charged by volume, and payment is by card or check rather than cash.Official guidance
