Flat-screen TVs
Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.
Tube TVs
An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.
TV stands and other electronics
The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Electronics are priced per item at the Recycling Center and they share the third week of the curbside rotation with tires, televisions and computers. The city treats a screen or a computer as a priced bulky item rather than as refuse, so there is a published route for both.
City cost & eligibility
$10 per electronics item at the Portsmouth Recycling Center, with the curbside bulky pickup adding a $10 pickup fee on top of that disposal cost. Portsmouth residents, paid by credit card with a processing fee or by check with no cash accepted, or paid online in advance with the receipt shown at drop-off.
When & how
Tires, televisions, computers and electronics are collected in the third week of the rotating bulky schedule, so a curbside booking lands then once Public Works has scheduled it on 603-427-1530. The drop-off route works during center hours, Tuesday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from any computer, laptop, tablet or phone before handover. Keep electronics out of the recycling bin, which takes paper, cardboard, cartons, cans, glass and plastic bottles rather than devices, and keep them out of the regular trash pile, because the centre prices them as a separate bulky item.
Residential curbside after 7 p.m., bulky between the evening and 6 a.m.
Residential properties put trash and recycling at the curb after 7:00 p.m. the night before the collection day. Downtown businesses work to a different clock, because the ordinance allows material out no more than two hours before pickup and the department typically starts around 4:00 p.m. Bulky items follow the booking rule instead, going out between 7:00 p.m. the day before the scheduled pickup and 6:00 a.m. on the day itself, always separate from the regular trash.
The curbside bulky weeks are set by material rather than by address. The first week takes upholstered furniture and mixed materials, the second takes appliances and scrap metal including refrigerators and Freon units, the third takes tires, televisions, computers and electronics, and the fourth takes wood furniture, wood scraps, painted or treated wood and pallets. A booking is placed in the week that matches the item, and nothing goes to the curb before Public Works has scheduled it.
Pay before the gate or the pickup, and never in cash
Both bulky routes are paid up front. At the Recycling Center the attendant takes a credit card with a processing fee or a check, and the center does not accept cash, while an online payment before drop-off needs the receipt printed and shown at the gate. For a curbside pickup the item fee is paid through the portal with the $10 pickup fee added and the pickup location entered, and Public Works then schedules the date on 603-427-1530.

Book a curbside bulky pickup

From $10 for the curbside bulky pickup fee of $10 on top of the disposal cost of each item, where a mattress, box spring, washer, dryer, dishwasher, upholstered furniture, wood furniture, gas grill or 20 pound propane tank adds $5, a tire adds $7, a cooking range or electronics item adds $10, a refrigerator or Freon unit adds $20 and clean wood adds $15 or $25 by volume. Portsmouth residents on the city collection route, paid through the payment portal before scheduling; a household served by a private trash hauler is not eligible for curbside pickup and has to use the Recycling Center instead.
Arrange it
Pay the item fee and the pickup fee through the payment portal, check the schedule pickup box and enter the pickup location, then call Public Works on 603-427-1530 to fix the date. The pickup falls in the rotation week for that material, and the item goes out between 7:00 p.m. the day before and 6:00 a.m. on the day.
Nothing goes to the curb without a booking, because unscheduled bulky waste is not collected. The item has to be inside the weekly 300 gallon property limit, kept separate from the regular trash, and matched to the right week of the rotation. Payment is by card or check rather than cash, and a household on a private hauler has no curbside option at all.
