The city and the authority do not name a mattress among the bulky items they collect, The grappler service is defined as taking bulky waste too large for the regular container, which is the category a mattress falls into, but the city's own item list sits behind a bot challenge that could not be read, so this is a question rather than a documented acceptance.

Call the city solid waste customer service line at 575-541-2111 or the authority at 575-528-3800 to confirm whether the mattress goes out on the monthly grappler day or has to be self-hauled, and ask what the gate charges either way.
When & how
Confirm first. If the mattress is taken on the grappler day it goes out once a month on the normal trash pickup date, and a self-haul trip is possible any day the Amador Avenue Transfer Station is open, Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress dry and out of the regular container, and keep it clear of the collection point until the day it is collected. Confirm the destination before loading a vehicle, and tarp or secure a self-haul load so the gate does not add an additional charge.
Everything except the container waits for the monthly grappler day
The grappler service takes the waste that will not fit in the regular container, and it comes once a month on the household's normal trash pickup date rather than on demand. Residents look up their route and day on the Grappler Schedule or call 575-541-2111, and the published grappler line is 575-528-8068 with Spanish available.
The published schedule notes that solid waste does not operate on one listed holiday and that service moves to the following day, while regular service is provided on all the other city holidays. In a week with that holiday a household should check the schedule rather than assume the usual pickup date.

From $8.36 per load at the published 2026 minimum tip fee, with a flat rate of 17.02 dollars per load and 68.05 dollars per ton at the Amador Avenue and Chaparral transfer stations, and an untarped or unsecured load may carry an additional charge. Residential self-haul loads delivered to an authority transfer station, priced by weight or at the flat rate. The Corralitos Landfill is not offered to households because the authority says access requires a solid waste account.
Arrange it
Take the load to the Amador Avenue Transfer Station at 2865 W. Amador, open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the last customer at 4:45 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the last load at 3:45 p.m.
The authority does not provide household pickup itself, the landfill is not the household route, and a load that is not tarped or secured may cost more at the gate. Green and yard waste has its own size rules at the same site.

Residential solid waste drop-off including household trash, bulky items, construction and demolition debris, green and yard waste, and recyclables handled at the adjacent operations, with green waste accepted from residents and businesses and chipped into compost that is free to city residents.
The authority does not provide household pickup itself and this is a drop-off site. Green waste has size rules: tree limbs no longer than five feet and no more than five inches in diameter, palm trees under two feet, no dirt or sod, and yard waste taken out of plastic bags. An untarped or unsecured load may carry an additional charge.
