Household garbage has to be in an official City bag at no more than 50 pounds, and containers have to be watertight with a tight cover, no larger than 33 gallons and no heavier than 50 pounds when full. A container does not replace the bag, because containerized garbage still has to be bagged.
Metal appliances and refrigerant units are collected by appointment with Public Works at 607-772-7020 rather than on the garbage route. Electronics are refused at the curb and go to the Broome County Landfill, and an unwrapped mattress will be left behind, so the appointment or the wrap has to happen before the item goes out.
