Junk removal in New York

DSNY large item curbside removal — free for all NYC residents. As of 2024, pick-up appointments are no longer offered or required. Place up to 6 large items at the curb on your regular collection day. Mattresses and box springs must be sealed in a plastic bag or encasement. CFC appliances (fridges, freezers, window AC units) still require a separate 311 request for Freon recovery. E-waste (TVs, computers, monitors) is banned from curbside trash — must go to SAFE Disposal events or e-waste drop-off sites.

E-waste goes to 1120 Seneca Street (Mon-Fri 8AM-3PM, first Sat 8AM-2PM).

Rochester offers weekly refuse collection with on-demand bulky item pickup via 311 or the city website. White Trash Disposal & Recycling handles weekly collection with bulk/special pickup options. Monroe County operates the Mill Seat Landfill and ecopark for residential drop-offs (no bagged garbage at ecopark). The High Acres Landfill (Waste Management) serves the greater Rochester region.

City code allows curbside yard debris pickup March 1-December 31; many bulk/disposal needs require transfer-station drop-off rather than guaranteed same-day curb pickup.
