Included in city residential collection, with no separate bulky charge published. Households on ASL streets need an appointment, and the city asks for two days notice when a special truck is scheduled.

Appliance pickup in White PlainsCity collection White goods and other large metal items are recycled rather than treated as ordinary bulk, so they need a scheduled appointment before they go to the curb. No charge is published for a residential white goods appointment, and the city asks residents to call rather than set the item out. The local disposal guide
White Plains collects its own residential trash and recycling, and how a bulky item leaves depends on the street. On the regular routes, large non-metal household items such as furniture and mattresses go out at the curb on the second day of the garbage pickup, with a 10 minute limit per address, and any mattress has to be wrapped in plastic and sealed with tape. Metal items, appliances and electronics are not part of that route: they need an appointment with Sanitation, a drop-off at the Gedney Way Recycling Yard, or both. New York law bans computers and televisions from the trash, so televisions under 55 inches have to be dropped at the yard, and the county's Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla takes the paint, chemicals, tires and rechargeable batteries the city cannot.

New York's electronic waste law makes it illegal to put computers, peripherals, small electronic equipment and televisions in the trash. Small electronics and televisions under 55 inches go to the Gedney Recycling Yard, larger televisions can be dropped there or collected by appointment, and the county facility takes e-waste as well.
White Plains does not collect household renovation debris such as doors, fencing, siding, toilets or bathtubs. The county's Household Material Recovery Facility refuses construction and demolition debris too, so a project load is a contractor arrangement or a licensed private transfer station.
Exercise equipment is not named in the city's collection rules, and a machine can be metal or partly electronic, so the route has to be confirmed. The two candidates are a bulk schedule for a non-metal piece and a metal appointment for anything the crew has to recycle as white goods.

The handoff matters
On the regular collection routes, large non-metal household items such as mattresses and furniture are picked up at the curb on the second day of the garbage pickup, and the crew spends a maximum of 10 minutes at each address to keep the citywide schedule. Households served by the Automated Side Loader trucks have to call 914-422-1217 to book the pickup, because anything that does not fit inside the black-lidded can needs a special truck, and the city asks for two days notice.
Regular collection compared with the Automated Side Loader routesBecause of bed bug concerns, the city requires every mattress to be wrapped in plastic and sealed with tape before Sanitation will take it, and the rule applies on both the regular routes and the Automated Side Loader streets. Foam toppers and other bedding follow the same idea: keep them bagged and out of the recycling containers rather than setting them out loose.
Bureau of SanitationRegular collection compared with the Automated Side Loader routesMetal, appliances and electronics are appointment items, not curb items. Do not leave them at the curb except on the scheduled day, and if something scheduled is still sitting there after 2 p.m. on that day, call Sanitation at 914-422-1217 rather than leaving it out, because uncollected material at the curb is a violation. The same number books the appointment, and the DPW At Your Service app accepts the request as well.

Yes. The city requires every mattress to be wrapped in plastic and sealed with tape before Sanitation will remove it, on both the regular routes and the Automated Side Loader streets, because of bed bug concerns.Official guidance
No. Refrigerators and other large metal items need a special appointment for curbside collection, which is booked through Sanitation at 914-422-1217, and the city stores white goods at the Gedney Way Recycling Yard in the meantime. A refrigerant appliance can also go to the county Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla by appointment.Official guidance
Televisions under 55 inches have to be dropped off at the Gedney Recycling Yard, because state law bans them from the trash. A set 55 inches or larger can be dropped off there or collected at the curb by appointment through Sanitation at 914-422-1217, and the county facility in Valhalla also accepts e-waste by appointment.Official guidance
The city's Bureau of Sanitation collects residential solid waste on an established schedule, with weekly paper and co-mingled recycling that includes plastics labeled 1 to 7. The bureau answers at 914-422-1217, and scheduled items that are not picked up by 2 p.m. on the appointment day should be reported to that number.Official guidance
Paper and co-mingled recycling are both weekly. Co-mingled bottles, cans and jars go out on the second day of your scheduled garbage pickup, including holiday weeks, and paper goes in reusable containers, cardboard boxes or paper bags because plastic bags are not accepted.Official guidance
To the county Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla, by appointment, where rechargeable batteries are accepted and should be individually bagged or taped at the ends. The county refuses non-rechargeable alkaline and carbon zinc batteries at the facility and directs residents to dispose of those in the trash.Official guidance
Holiday trees are picked up at the curb from December 26 into mid January, from the property side of the curb, every three to five working days, and they are mulched so all decorations and plastic bags have to be removed. After January 15 the pickup is arranged by calling 914-422-1201.Official guidance
No. Sharps are on the county's not accepted list along with medical waste, motor oil, smoke and fire detectors and non-rechargeable batteries. Households with sharps should use a pharmacy or medical take-back programme rather than the county facility or the trash.Official guidance
Yes. Large metal items and white goods are recycled rather than treated as ordinary bulk, so Sanitation has to schedule the curbside pickup first, and small non-automotive scrap metal is only accepted by dropping it at the Gedney Recycling Yard rather than through curbside recycling.Official guidance
