The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.
Flat-screen TVs
Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.
Tube TVs
An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.
TV stands and other electronics
The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

New York's electronic waste law makes it illegal to put computers, peripherals, small electronic equipment and televisions in the trash. Small electronics and televisions under 55 inches go to the Gedney Recycling Yard, larger televisions can be dropped there or collected by appointment, and the county facility takes e-waste as well.
City cost & eligibility
No fee is published for residential electronics recycling at the Gedney Yard or on a scheduled curbside pickup, and the county directs callers to its helpline for fees. Confirm the route and any charge before loading a screen into the car.

Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep electronics out of the trash and out of the recycling bins, and bring the device intact rather than dismantled. Refrigerant appliances, batteries and smoke detectors are handled separately and are not part of an electronics drop-off.
Metal, appliances and electronics are appointment items, not curb items. Do not leave them at the curb except on the scheduled day, and if something scheduled is still sitting there after 2 p.m. on that day, call Sanitation at 914-422-1217 rather than leaving it out, because uncollected material at the curb is a violation. The same number books the appointment, and the DPW At Your Service app accepts the request as well.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

The city publishes no residential charge for these appointments. Call Sanitation at 914-422-1217 to book the pickup and confirm any charge, and allow two days notice on the Automated Side Loader streets.

The item has to be at the curb only on the scheduled day, a refrigerant appliance may need the county facility instead, and anything that is still usable can be donated to the seasonal Take It or Leave It shed.

A White Plains resident with recyclables, small scrap metal, a textile bag, a small electronic item or a television under 55 inches.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Free for White Plains residents who show ID at the gate, in a car or small non-commercial truck. Commercial vehicles that use the facility are charged a fee.
Arrange it
Drive to 87 Gedney Way, stop at the gate house to check in with the gatekeeper, and unload at the marked areas.
Residents only, no commercial hauling, and the yard takes only the listed streams: paper and co-mingled recycling with books, plastic bags and Styrofoam excluded, small non-automotive scrap metal, textiles, small electronics and televisions under 55 inches. Scrap metal is accepted here and never through curbside recycling.

The county directs callers to the Recycling Helpline at (914) 813-5425 for fees, appointments and the accepted list, so confirm the charge for your load before the reservation.
Arrange it
Reserve a slot up to two weeks ahead online or by calling (914) 813-5425, then arrive at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on a Tuesday to Saturday with a government photo ID.
Asbestos is never accepted, and construction and demolition debris, curbside recyclables, motor oil, medical waste other than pharmaceuticals, sharps, smoke and fire detectors, non-rechargeable batteries and large rugs are refused. Tires are limited to four per household and medications are only accepted on the first Tuesday of the month.
White Plains residents have a city yard and a county facility for what the trucks will not take. The Gedney Recycling Yard at 87 Gedney Way is for residents only, with ID shown at the gate house and no commercial loads, and it takes household paper and co-mingled recycling, small non-automotive scrap metal by drop-off only, textiles, small electronics and televisions under 55 inches. Large metal items and white goods such as refrigerators, stoves and boilers need a scheduled curbside appointment through Sanitation at 914-422-1217 instead, and the city stores those items at the yard in the meantime. For paint, chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, tires, rechargeable batteries, refrigerant appliances and document shredding, the county runs the Household Material Recovery Facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment only, with reservations made online or through the Recycling Helpline at (914) 813-5425. Renovation debris is outside all of this: the city does not collect doors, fencing, siding, toilets or bathtubs, and the county refuses construction and demolition debris, so that load goes to a licensed private transfer station. Televisions under 55 inches, which must be dropped off here, and televisions 55 inches and larger as an option.
White Plains residents only with ID required, cars and small non-commercial trucks only, and commercial vehicles are charged a fee. Do not put a television at the curb unless Sanitation has scheduled the appointment for a set 55 inches or larger, because state law bans televisions from the trash.
The drop-off area is published as open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 8 to 11:30 a.m. for residents. The seasonal Take It or Leave It shed for reusable household goods runs Saturdays 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesdays 2 to 4 p.m. from late April through October.

Tires are limited to four per household and propane tanks to 20 pound BBQ and 1 pound camping sizes.
