A television may not go in the trash cart, OCRRA takes no electronics at its own sites, and New York's electronics law route is a participating retailer or mail-back drop-off where rules and fees vary by site.

Put construction debris in disposable boxes or buckets rather than bags, keep broken glass and nails in a box or bucket you do not expect back, keep the load separate from yard waste and household trash, and keep it within 2 cubic yards because a larger pile has to go to a landfill.
Exercise equipment is not on the city's accepted bulk list, so a treadmill or a home gym has to be cleared with Cityline before it goes out.

Break the machine down as far as the manufacturer allows, remove loose weights and the console so two people can carry the frame, and keep it within the 2 cubic yard and 50 pound limits if a collection is approved.
Paint, chemicals and other household toxics cannot go in the trash cart, and OCRRA books free appointments to drop them at a hazardous waste handler in Syracuse.

Collect at least a box of material before booking, keep products in their labelled containers, and check the current accepted list: as of July 2026 oil based paint, oil based stains and oil based sealers are temporarily not taken at Miller Environmental Group, and those products have to go to a paint stewardship drop-off instead. Each bulk collection is capped by size, weight and count: no more than 2 cubic yards, which the city compares to a washer and dryer side by side, and no more than 50 pounds. A larger clear-out takes more than one collection.

Trash is collected weekly and only bagged waste inside the city cart is taken. The cart may not go to the curb before 6 p.m. the night before collection and has to be back off the street by 7 p.m. on the collection day.
Yard waste, hazardous or toxic waste, paint, televisions and other electronics, demolition waste, medical or pathological waste, explosives and radioactive material are all prohibited in the trash cart and have their own routes.
Yard waste runs once a month from April to October with leaves collected in November, and construction debris is taken only twice a year, in May and September, on your quadrant's published dates. Construction debris goes out in boxes or buckets, not bags, and has to be on the curb by 6 a.m.

Take the load to 5808 Rock Cut Road in Jamesville during resident hours, Monday to Friday 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through the end of summer, unload it yourself, and keep the load tarped if you arrive in a truck or trailer.
Residents only, and the material has to be delivered by the resident rather than a hauler or contractor. Tires have to be under 20 inches with the rims removed and are limited to ten, an untarped vehicle pays an extra fee, and the station closes on the six major holidays.

ReStore takes large appliances only when they are less than ten years old, clean and in proven working condition, and each outlet sets its own requirements, so call before loading the vehicle.
