Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions

Accepted with preparation

A television may not go in the trash cart, OCRRA takes no electronics at its own sites, and New York's electronics law route is a participating retailer or mail-back drop-off where rules and fees vary by site.

City cost & eligibility
There is no city charge because the city accepts no televisions, and the drop-off sites set their own terms: one Liverpool site takes up to two televisions per household a year for a fee while other listed sites are free for many items and some charge for televisions. Call the site before you load the set.
When & how
Check the current drop-off list, call the site to confirm that it takes your set and what it charges, then deliver the television during that site's hours rather than setting it at the curb.
Get it ready
Keep televisions out of the trash cart and out of the bulk pile because the city lists televisions and other electronics as prohibited cart items, protect the screen in transit, and erase anything stored on the set before it leaves your hands.

With a new purchase

Use an electronics drop-off under the state law

A household with a television, monitor, computer, printer or other covered electronic device.

Cost & conditions
Each drop-off site sets its own terms: one Liverpool site takes two televisions per household a year for 20 dollars each while many other items are free, a Dewitt retailer may charge depending on the item, and some listed sites refuse televisions altogether. Call before the trip.
Arrange it
Check the current county list, call the site to confirm it accepts your item and what it charges, then deliver it during that site's business hours or use a mail-back program.

The sites are independent businesses that do not report to the county, so their policies can change without notice; some accept only part of the covered electronics and some charge for televisions.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Syracuse residents can drive most large material to the Onondaga County transfer station at 5808 Rock Cut Road in Jamesville, which opens to residents on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, takes payment at the gate, and charges extra for an appliance holding refrigerant, a mattress, a microwave or a tire. Yard waste has its own city drop-off at 1200 Canal Street Extension from April through November, and paint and household chemicals go to an appointment at Miller Environmental Group on State Fair Boulevard. Electronics are the exception: the county takes none at its sites, so a television or computer goes to a retailer or mail-back program under the state electronics law. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Syracuse.

How much does TV removal cost in Syracuse?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Syracuse?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where does a television go in Syracuse?

Not in the trash cart, where televisions and other electronics are prohibited, and not to the city bulk truck. OCRRA itself takes no electronics at its locations, so televisions go to a site that participates under New York's electronics law, such as a retailer or mail-back program. Those sites set their own rules, some will not take a television at all and some charge, so call ahead first.Official guidance
