Appliances are not on the city's bulk list, so a refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner or dishwasher goes to the Rock Cut Road transfer station, where a unit holding refrigerant carries its own fee.
City cost & eligibility
$15 per appliance containing refrigerant dropped at the transfer station, in addition to any vehicle entrance fee. The appliance fee applies to refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water coolers and heat pumps at the Rock Cut Road transfer station, which is open to Onondaga County residents who deliver their own material. A unit dropped off alone does not pay the vehicle entrance fee.
When & how
Take the unit to the Rock Cut Road transfer station at 5808 Rock Cut Road in Jamesville during resident hours and unload it yourself, or donate a working unit to a reuse outlet instead.
Get it ready
Empty and clean the unit, remove anything loose from inside, and keep appliances out of the curbside recycling bin because household appliances never belong there. A unit with refrigerant is charged separately because the refrigerant has to be recovered.
Each bulk collection is capped by size, weight and count: no more than 2 cubic yards, which the city compares to a washer and dryer side by side, and no more than 50 pounds. A larger clear-out takes more than one collection.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Arrange it
Take the load to 5808 Rock Cut Road in Jamesville during resident hours, Monday to Friday 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. or Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through the end of summer, unload it yourself, and keep the load tarped if you arrive in a truck or trailer.
Residents only, and the material has to be delivered by the resident rather than a hauler or contractor. Tires have to be under 20 inches with the rims removed and are limited to ten, an untarped vehicle pays an extra fee, and the station closes on the six major holidays.

No charge. Donation is free to the household, and the outlet's own condition and age rules decide what it accepts.
Arrange it
Offer a working large appliance to Habitat for Humanity ReStore, which lists washers, dryers, refrigerators, gas and electric stoves, dishwashers, range hoods and microwaves, and offer small working appliances to the Salvation Army or the Rescue Mission.
ReStore takes large appliances only when they are less than ten years old, clean and in proven working condition, and each outlet sets its own requirements, so call before loading the vehicle.
Household trash, recyclables, large appliances including microwaves, refrigerators and dishwashers, appliances with refrigerant such as ice makers and dehumidifiers, mattresses, box springs and bed frames, tires up to 20 inches with the rims removed, and construction and demolition material such as masonry, glass, insulation, empty dry paint cans, plumbing fixtures, roofing, siding, treated and untreated wood, drywall and plaster, all subject to size restrictions.
Onondaga County residents only, with the material delivered by the resident rather than a hauler or contractor, no appointment needed, and residents unloading their own material because the agency cannot provide assistance. Overload fees can apply by load size or type, loads in a truck bed or trailer must be tarped, and electronics are not taken here at all.
Monday to Friday 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through the end of summer, with shorter hours in the fall, closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. The agency answers at (315) 453-2866.

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?+
Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.
Where does a refrigerator or an air conditioner go in Syracuse?+
