Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.
Desks and bookshelves
Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Furniture counts as one of the three bulk pieces included with the weekly service for an eligible owner-occupied property, and no separate charge is published for those pieces. A pile larger than the weekly allowance moves to the district Large Bulk collection or a paid Pick and Pay pickup.

Get it ready
Keep the piece cohesive, tape or bag any loose cushions and drawers so the piece stays one item, and keep carpet and padding to four foot sections. Furniture in good condition can be donated through the coalition of non profits the city names instead of going to the curb.
Eligible owner-occupied one and two family properties may put out three bulk pieces on the regular collection day all year, and each piece has to be one cohesive item no larger than twelve feet by three feet by three feet. A dresser with the drawers left inside is one piece, while the same dresser with the drawers removed counts as eight separate pieces against the weekly limit.
The district Large Bulk collection and Pick and Pay
A pile larger than the weekly allowance waits for the Large Bulk collection day designated for the council district, when material goes out the Sunday before the scheduled week and is collected some time that week, with the pile limited to four cubic yards. Residents can also book a special pickup through 311 as a Pick and Pay, which the city prices from a starting point for a pile measuring twelve feet long by three feet high by three feet wide.

An eligible household with more bulk material than the three piece weekly allowance, or with a pile that missed the district Large Bulk collection.
Cost & conditions
From $150 for the starting price the city publishes for a special bulk pickup pile measuring twelve feet long by three feet high by three feet wide. Buffalo households whose owner-occupied one or two family property pays the residential user fee and is not owned by a company. The pickup is arranged through 311, and the price rises with the size of the pile.

The service covers bulk material rather than televisions, computers, tires, construction debris or hazardous waste, which all have their own routes.
Donate through the Western New York Coalition for Donated Goods
A household with clothing or household goods in reusable condition that would rather be donated than set out.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Donation rather than a disposal service, with the city naming the coalition of non profits that includes Goodwill, the Salvation Army, the Buffalo City Mission, AMVETS and Hearts for the Homeless. Each organisation sets its own acceptance rules.

The organisations decide what they can take, so worn, stained or broken items still go out as bulk pieces rather than being accepted as a donation.
