You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Furniture is picked up with the regular trash, so a sofa or chair can go to the curb with your normal collection. Remove the metal fold-out section from a sleeper sofa before it goes out.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Furniture placed at the curb is collected with the regular Cheektowaga trash service at no separate charge.
When & how
Furniture rides the household's normal garbage day rather than a separate bulky route.
Get it ready
Set furniture at the curb inside the same window as garbage. For a sleeper sofa, take the metal fold-out mechanism out first. Carpet, carpet padding, pool liners and covers, and similar bulky material must be cut into 4 foot lengths or widths, rolled, tied and kept under 40 pounds per bundle, with no more than six bundles.
Mattresses and box springs are collected on the scheduled garbage day, but they must be wrapped in plastic before they go out.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Mattresses and box springs are collected with the regular Cheektowaga trash service once they are wrapped in plastic.
When & how
Collection follows the household's normal garbage day.
Get it ready
Wrap the mattress or box spring in plastic and set it at the curb within the same window as garbage. Toilets carry the same plastic wrapping requirement.
Appliances and metal items go out with the regular garbage after you submit the town's notification form. Anything with a cord or a motor follows the same route.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Appliances, metal and corded or motorized items are placed out through the town's notification process at no separate charge.
When & how
The item is collected on the household's normal garbage day once the notification has been submitted.
Get it ready
File the town's Electronics or Metal Pick-Up notification before the collection day, then set the item at the curb with the regular trash inside the normal 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. window. Call the Sanitation Department at 716-686-3426 if you are unsure whether the item qualifies.
Material from work the owner or occupant does is collected in small bundles, while debris from a hired contractor is the contractor's responsibility. The town excludes several common landscaping and outdoor items.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Owner and occupant project debris within the published bundle limits is collected with the regular Cheektowaga service. Contractor debris is excluded and must be removed by the contractor.
When & how
Bundled material goes out on the regular collection day within the normal set-out window.
Get it ready
Cut plasterboard, drywall, paneling, doors, wood and shingles into 4 foot sections, tie them in bundles under 40 pounds and 4 feet long, and stack them neatly at the curb or place them in an authorized tote. The limit is two totes or six bundles. Landscape timbers, railroad ties, pallets, firewood and stumps are not collected, and work done by a contractor must be removed by that contractor, except toilets which go out wrapped in plastic with the regular trash.
Cheektowaga allows garbage and bulky items at the curb from 3:00 p.m. the day before collection until 6:00 a.m. on collection day. Putting trash out before 3:00 p.m. the previous day is an ordinance violation and can bring a fine, so timing matters more here than the collection itself.
Mattresses, box springs and toilets must be wrapped in plastic before they go out. Carpet, padding and similar bulky material must be cut, rolled, tied and kept under 40 pounds per bundle with a six bundle limit, and home project debris is limited to two totes or six bundles.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
The required step before a television, computer, appliance or any corded or motorized item can go out with the regular trash.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Submitting the notification does not add a fee. The item is then collected on the regular garbage day.
Arrange it
Submit the town's Notification of Metal Pick-Up form before the collection day, then set the item at the curb with the regular garbage. Call 716-686-3426 if the item does not clearly fit the electronics, appliance or metal description.
The item travels on the normal collection day, so the standard 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. set-out window applies.
Cheektowaga does not publish a single residential drop-off site for household items, because the town route is curbside collection on your regular day, combined with the electronics and metal notification for appliances and anything with a cord or motor. Branches beyond the curbside bundle limit can go to the Highway yard during business hours if you call 716-686-3450 first, and hazardous material such as paint, pool chemicals and batteries waits for an Erie County hazardous waste drop-off day. Call the Sanitation Department at 716-686-3426 if you need to confirm how a specific item will be handled. Sanitation Department and RecyclingHighway Department

A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Cheektowaga.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Cheektowaga?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
Will a couch be picked up with the regular trash?+
Yes. Furniture is collected with the regular garbage, so put it at the curb on your normal collection day. A sleeper sofa needs the metal fold-out section removed before pick-up.Official guidance
Do mattresses and box springs need to be wrapped?+
Yes. Cheektowaga requires mattresses and box springs to be wrapped in plastic for pick-up, and they are collected on your scheduled garbage day. Toilets must be wrapped in plastic as well.Official guidance
How do I put out a refrigerator or washer?+
Submit the town's Electronics or Metal Pick-Up notification, then set the appliance at the curb with your regular garbage on collection day. Electronics, appliances, metal and anything with a cord or motor all follow that route.Official guidance
What home project debris will the town collect?+
Debris from work you do yourself is collected if it is cut into 4 foot sections, tied in bundles under 40 pounds, and kept to two totes or six bundles. Debris from a contractor is the contractor's responsibility, and landscape timbers, railroad ties, pallets, firewood and stumps are never collected.Official guidance
Does it cost extra to put out a television or appliance?+
No. Cheektowaga collects electronics, appliances, metal and anything with a cord or motor with the regular garbage at no separate charge once you file the town's notification form. The one town charge that comes up often is a replacement or extra tote, which is a separate purchase arranged through the Sanitation Department, and the current tote prices are published on the town page. Dropcurb pricing for a pickup is shown at checkout and is separate from these municipal charges.Official guidance
What is the electronics and metal notification?+
It is the town form you submit before setting out electronics, appliances, metal, or anything with a cord or motor. The item then goes to the curb with your regular garbage on collection day. Skipping the notification is the most common reason these items sit uncollected.Official guidance
What time can I put items at the curb?+
Not before 3:00 p.m. the day before your collection day, and everything should be out before 6:00 a.m. on collection day. Putting trash out earlier than 3:00 p.m. the previous day is an ordinance violation and can bring a fine.Official guidance
