Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulk garbage and metal items are collected only on an appointment, booked through the town's online scheduling tool or through the Department of Public Works. The load is limited to two or three items depending on their size, and the town has limited appointment slots each week.
City cost & eligibility
The town does not print a charge for a bulk appointment on its sanitation page, so confirm the current terms when the appointment is booked by calling the DPW office on (914) 989-1580 or booking through the town's online scheduling tool. There is no published per item price to quote before then.
When & how
Book the appointment before anything is set out, because the collection does not run on the ordinary cart day. The town warns that demand is high and slots are limited each week, so the soonest available date may be some way off.
Get it ready
Keep the load to the allowed two or three items, which depends on how large they are, and hold anything beyond that for a private carting or junk removal company, which the town recommends and notes may allow reuse. Carpet has to be cut into four foot lengths, rolled and tied before the appointment. Paint cans are accepted on a bulk appointment when the paint is dried with cat litter or a chemical hardener, or poured onto rags to dry, with the lids taken off and left to the side. Styrofoam can go in the town issued garbage can instead of on a bulk appointment. Keep construction debris, tires, hazardous products and contractor material out of the appointment load entirely.
Construction debris, tires and hazardous materials are outside the town program altogether, and material generated by a contractor or a gardener is the contractor's to remove.
City cost & eligibility
The town does not collect construction debris such as sheetrock, lumber, insulation, porcelain toilets, sinks and bathtubs or tile, and it does not collect tires or hazardous materials including automotive fluids, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs and LEDs, flammable liquids, mercury devices, pesticides, pool chemicals and propane tanks. Construction material goes to a contractor or a private carter using the county's licensed transfer station list, and the hazardous products go to the Westchester County Household Materials Recovery Facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla, where an appointment can be reserved up to two weeks ahead on the Recycling Help Line at (914) 813-5425.
When & how
Arrange the private carter or the county appointment before the material accumulates, because none of it can ride a bulk appointment or a cart day.
Get it ready
Keep porcelain fixtures, sheetrock, lumber, insulation and tile out of every curbside pile, and keep automotive fluids, propane tanks, mercury devices, pool chemicals and rechargeable batteries out of the carts as well. Where a contractor or gardener generated the material, the town puts removal on them, so the household should settle it before the work starts.
County regulations require every piece of electronic waste to be recycled, so computers, televisions and printers leave through the county facility by appointment or through the town's public works yard without one. Rechargeable batteries never go in a cart.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Household electronics and rechargeable batteries, which the town states are accepted at the county Household Materials Recovery Facility at no charge, and electronics dropped at the town public works yard in Ardsley, which the town lists as a free drop off point with no appointment required.
When & how
The town yard at 100 Sprain Road in Ardsley is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with no appointment needed, while the county facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla takes an appointment that can be reserved up to two weeks ahead on the Recycling Help Line at (914) 813-5425.
Get it ready
Never put a rechargeable or lithium battery in the garbage or the recycling cart, because the town warns they start fires in trucks and at facilities, and never put electronic waste at the curb since county regulations make recycling it mandatory. Wipe personal data before handover, and note that ordinary household batteries may go out with the garbage while a car battery has to go to a mechanic or a gas station under state law.
Nothing large goes out on the ordinary cart day. Bulk garbage and metal are collected by appointment only, booked through the town's online scheduling tool or on (914) 989-1580, in a load of two or three items depending on size, and the town has limited slots each week so the soonest date may be a while away. A household with more than the allowed items, or with construction debris, is directed to a private carting or junk removal company, and the town also asks residents replacing a mattress, appliance or piece of furniture to check the retailer and to donate what still works.
Carpet has to be cut into four foot lengths, rolled and tied before the appointment, and paint cans are accepted only with the paint dried using cat litter or a hardener, or poured onto rags to dry, with the lids off and left to the side. On the cart route, only material inside the town issued cart is collected, loose trash is bagged, nothing sits on top of the lid, carts stay three feet apart from each other and other objects, and everything is at the street edge by 7 a.m. Needles go out with the garbage in a screw top container labeled sharps.
Electronics and hazardous products go to the county
Electronic waste is under a county recycling mandate, so computers, televisions and printers are dropped at the town public works yard at 100 Sprain Road in Ardsley, open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with no appointment, or at the Westchester County Household Materials Recovery Facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla with an appointment reserved up to two weeks ahead on (914) 813-5425. The same county facility takes the hazardous products the town refuses, including automotive fluids, propane tanks, pool and photographic chemicals, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs, mercury devices and rechargeable batteries, and rechargeable batteries never go in a cart because they start fires in the trucks.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
Town of Greenburgh Bureau of Sanitation, with Westchester County for electronics and hazardous material
Book the town bulk appointment
A town household with a small number of large items such as furniture, a mattress, rolled carpet or metal, or with paint cans that have been dried out.
Cost & conditions
The town does not print a charge for the appointment on its sanitation page, so confirm the current terms when booking on (914) 989-1580 or through the online scheduling tool.
Arrange it
Book the appointment first, prepare the items as the town asks with carpet cut and tied and paint dried with the lids off, then set the load out for the scheduled day only.
The load is limited to two or three items depending on their size, slots are limited each week, construction debris, tires and hazardous materials are not accepted at all, and a household over the limit has to use a private carter.
Town of Greenburgh Bureau of Sanitation, with Westchester County for electronics and hazardous material
Use the town yard and the county facility
A household with electronics, rechargeable batteries or hazardous products that no cart or bulk appointment will take.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Electronics and rechargeable batteries, which the town states are accepted at the county facility at no charge, with the town yard in Ardsley also offered as a drop off point for electronics.
Arrange it
Take electronics to 100 Sprain Road in Ardsley on a weekday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. without an appointment, or book the county facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla up to two weeks ahead on (914) 813-5425 for electronics and hazardous products.
The county facility needs an appointment and the town yard keeps weekday daytime hours only, and neither route takes ordinary household garbage or construction debris.
A household with more items than the appointment allows, or with construction debris, porcelain fixtures or other material the town refuses.
Cost & conditions
The town directs these loads to a private carting or junk removal company and, for construction material, to a contractor or a private carter working from the county's licensed transfer station list, without publishing a rate, so the price is quoted by the company that does the work.
Arrange it
Choose a carter, describe the material accurately, and for construction debris ask the contractor who did the work to take it, since the town puts that responsibility on the contractor.
Nothing here is a town service, the cost is set by the company, and the household still has to keep hazardous products out of the load because the carter cannot take what the county facility handles.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?+

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.

Not to the curb. The town does not collect construction debris such as sheetrock, lumber, insulation, tile or porcelain fixtures and directs it to a contractor or private carter working from the county's licensed transfer station list, and it does not collect tires or hazardous materials such as automotive fluids, propane tanks, pesticides, pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs or mercury devices, which go to the Westchester County Household Materials Recovery Facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla with an appointment reserved up to two weeks ahead on (914) 813-5425. Latex paint in a can is the one exception that can ride a bulk appointment once it is dried and the lid is off.Official guidance

Electronic waste is under a county recycling mandate, so computers, televisions and printers go to the Westchester County Household Materials Recovery Facility at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla with an appointment up to two weeks ahead on (914) 813-5425, or to the town public works yard at 100 Sprain Road in Ardsley, which is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with no appointment. Rechargeable and lithium batteries must never go in a cart because they start fires, and they are accepted at the county facility at no charge, while an ordinary battery can go out with the garbage and a car battery has to go to a mechanic or gas station.Official guidance
Who runs waste collection in Greenburgh?+
The Town of Greenburgh Bureau of Sanitation runs solid waste, paper and commingled recycling, brush and yard waste, and bulk item collection for town residents on an established schedule, with the Department of Public Works office on (914) 989-1580 or by email at dpw@greenburghny.com and cart requests on (914) 989-1581. What does clearing a house cost in Greenburgh?+

A household over the limit pays a private carting or junk removal company instead, at a price that company quotes, and the county facility takes household electronics and rechargeable batteries at no charge by appointment or at the town yard without one. Dropcurb prices a booking separately with the total shown before payment.Official guidance
How many items will Greenburgh pick up at once?+
