Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Televisions and screens

Accepted with preparation

Televisions are named on the city's weekly large item list, so a set goes out at the curb on the normal collection day with no appointment, while ReWorks refuses electronics at its hazardous waste collection.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no separate fee for a television set out on the normal collection day. ReWorks refuses electronics at its household hazardous waste collection and points residents to its recycling days and to private recyclers, whose fees are set by each vendor, so confirm the route with the 3-1-1 Call Center at 330-375-2311 if the set is unusual.
When & how
Put the television out on the normal weekly collection day, three feet from the city cart and at the curb by 4:30 a.m. ReWorks says to watch for the next Recycling Days event if you would rather recycle the set.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from anything that powers on, remove cables, stands and loose batteries, and keep the screen out of the recycling cart and out of the glass drop-off bins, because computer and television screens are refused there. Batteries never go in the recycling cart.

Set large items out on the normal collection day

Akron picks up furniture, dressers, mattresses, couches, televisions, bookcases, doors, bicycles, windows and tied bundles such as carpet, wood, brush, branches and fencing on the normal weekly collection day, with no appointment. Put the items at the curb by 4:30 a.m., at least three feet apart from the city cart and from anything else, and keep them out of the street and off the sidewalk.

Trash, recycling and large items

Book a Special Bulk Volume pickup for a cleanout

A large amount of bags, boxes or trash after cleaning out a house, basement or garage, or after moving out, needs a Special Bulk Volume pickup. Each home is allowed three a year, the pickup has to be scheduled at least one working day before the collection day through 3-1-1 or 330-375-2311, and nothing should go to the curb before 4:30 p.m. the day before.

Trash, recycling and large items

Prepare a household hazardous waste load

ReWorks takes household hazardous waste at 1201 Graham Road in Stow on Thursdays from 2 to 7 p.m. during its season, and no container may be larger than five gallons. Only material generated at your own Summit County home is accepted, and nothing from a business, school, non-profit or government source qualifies. Asbestos, embedded batteries, compact fluorescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes and mercury items each have their own packing instructions, and latex paint, electronics, Freon containing appliances, scrap tires and construction debris are refused.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Weekly curbside large item collection

Furniture, mattresses, couches, televisions, bookcases, doors, bicycles, windows and tied bundles of carpet, wood, brush, branches or fencing from a one, two or three family home in Akron.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no separate fee for large items set out on the normal collection day, and no appointment is needed. Confirm anything unusual with the 3-1-1 Call Center at 330-375-2311.
Arrange it
Set the items out on the household's normal weekly collection day, at the curb by 4:30 a.m. and at least three feet from the city cart, which has to be out too because the city empties only its own carts.

Televisions are named on the weekly large item list, so no appointment is needed, but screens must stay out of the recycling cart and out of the city glass drop-off bins, which refuse computer and television screens.

Special Bulk Volume pickup

A household clearing out a house, basement, garage or apartment with a large amount of bags, boxes or trash that will not fit in the cart.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no separate fee for a Special Bulk Volume pickup and allows three per home each year. Confirm the volume and timing with the 3-1-1 Call Center at 330-375-2311.
Arrange it
Schedule at least one working day before the collection day through 3-1-1 from a landline or 330-375-2311 from a cell phone, then put the material at the curb no earlier than 4:30 p.m. the day before the pickup.

Three pickups per home per year, and the material still cannot include hazardous waste, roofing material, concrete, plaster, dirt, sand, gravel, bricks, drywall or demolition and construction debris.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Most of Akron's bulky material never leaves the neighbourhood: furniture, mattresses, couches, televisions, bookcases, doors, bicycles, windows and tied bundles go out on the normal weekly collection day three feet from the city cart, and a whole cleanout uses one of three Special Bulk Volume pickups a year booked a working day ahead. What has to be hauled is the material the city and ReWorks both refuse at the curb: household chemicals, which go to the seasonal ReWorks collection at 1201 Graham Road in Stow on Thursdays during its season, and scrap tires, which ReWorks says have no free disposal option and which go to a tire vendor. Electronics are refused at the hazardous waste collection and move through a ReWorks Recycling Days event or a private recycler. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Akron.

How much does TV removal cost in Akron?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Akron?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

How do I get rid of a television in Akron?

Televisions are named on the city's list of large items collected weekly at the curb with no appointment, so the set goes out on the normal collection day, three feet from the city cart. ReWorks refuses electronics at its hazardous waste collection and instead points to its Recycling Days events, which have collected televisions, monitors, laptops, tablets and cell phones, and to private recyclers that set their own fees.Official guidance

No. The city states that furniture, dressers, mattresses, couches, televisions, bookcases, doors, bicycles, windows and tied bundles of carpet, wood, brush, branches and fencing are collected weekly when they are set out on the normal collection day, three feet from the city cart. Only a large volume of bags, boxes or trash from a cleanout needs a booked Special Bulk Volume pickup, and each home gets three of those a year.Official guidance
