Does Kettering pick up appliances?
Yard waste in Kettering runs through two parallel paths because the City of Kettering does NOT pick up yard debris from your curb — the Yard Debris Center FAQ is explicit: "Will the city pick-up my yard debris? No, the city does not pick-up yard debris." (1) The free Kettering Yard Debris Center (YDC) at 1840 Woodman Center Dr., Kettering 45420 — Streets Division Hotline — accepts brush, limbs, trimmings, and Christmas trees no larger than 6 feet in length and 6 inches in diameter. Proof of Kettering residency / taxpayer status is required at drop-off. Summer hours (first Monday in March through end of November) are M–F 3 PM–8 PM and Saturday 9 AM–3 PM, closed Sunday — no weekday morning hours. Winter hours (first Saturday in December through end of February) are Saturdays only 9 AM–3 PM. Bags must be emptied on drop-off and the bags removed; no sacks left behind. Grass clippings, root balls, stumps, thatch, sod, dirt, rocks, concrete, and building / construction materials are explicitly refused — they contaminate the on-site compost stream. Material is tub-ground and composted on-site, with free spring mulch returned to residents at Indian Riffle Park, Stroop Rd. (Thursday / Friday spring restock; proof of residency required). (2) The paid weekly curbside path is via Rumpke — 1-; city trash hotline ("937-29-TRASH") — Kettering's contracted single-hauler residential service for properties of 3 units or fewer; opting out is not permitted. There is no separate yard-waste route, no separate cart, no seasonal calendar — yard waste rides with the regular trash on the weekly service day. Rumpke "will collect up to three bulk items each week without notification or scheduling," and bundled yard brush counts as one of those three items: "must be secured with twine or similar material and must not be longer than four feet in length." Bagged yard waste is each-bag-counts-as-one of the three weekly slots — max 35-gallon capacity, max 50 lbs, and "yard waste in paper bags will not be serviced if the bags are wet or exceed 50 lbs." Effective January 1, 2025, Rumpke modified the cart-contents-only program to include extra bagged garbage and bundled brush in those three weekly slots, ending the prior overage-bag program. Service rates effective July 1, 2026 (3% CPI bump): standard curbside $53.22/qtr ($17.74/mo); senior curbside $26.70/qtr; premium carryout $122.85/qtr; additional cart $12.00/qtr — yard waste counts against the 3 weekly bulk items, no separate fee. (3) Annual fall city leaf collection is the only city-run curbside service for yard material — leaves raked between curb and sidewalk (not in the street) get picked up on a seasonal route and processed into leaf compost at the city's leaf farm. (4) Stumps, root balls, and sod — refused at YDC and unfit for the Rumpke bulk channel — route to the Montgomery County Solid Waste District (MCSWD) Transfer & Recycling Facility at 1001 Encrete Lane, Moraine 45439; paid by-the-load tipping; M–F 6 AM–7 PM, Sat 8 AM–3 PM, Sun closed; gates close promptly; Rule 8-2024 (effective January 2026) requires fully tarped truck and trailer loads before entering the facility. The MCSWD Education / Administration site at 2550 Sandridge Drive, Moraine is programs only — NOT a tip site.
