Appliances and white goods

Special rules apply

Appliances are named as bulk items, but any unit holding refrigerant has to have the CFCs removed and a certified technician's tag attached before it goes out.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Single family homes on public residential streets with Waste Management service, with the appliance collected as a bulk item inside the quarterly rate; the county landfill takes appliances for a per unit charge instead when a household hauls its own load.
When & how
Have the refrigerant removed and the unit tagged first, then put the appliance at the curb by 7:00 A.M. on the collection day. A household that would rather haul the unit itself takes it to the Lake County Solid Waste Facility during its weekday or Saturday hours.
Get it ready
CFCs in air conditioners and refrigerators must be removed before pickup and the appliance must be properly tagged by a certified technician, which means arranging the work with a qualified service provider first. Empty the unit, secure the doors and drum, and keep appliances out of the recycling bin.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Out by 7 a.m. on the collection day and back in the next morning

Material goes to the curb no later than 7:00 A.M. on the collection day and no earlier than 3:00 P.M. the day before, and cans and containers come off the curb before 7 A.M. the day after. Garbage, bulk items and yard waste arrive on separate vehicles that can come at different times between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and there are no callbacks, so a pile stays out until the right truck reaches it. A holiday that falls on a weekday pushes the whole schedule one day, while a weekend holiday does not.

Refrigerant appliances need the tag before the truck

An air conditioner or refrigerator is collected only after the CFCs inside it have been removed and the unit has been properly tagged by a certified technician, so the service work has to be arranged before the appliance goes to the curb. Once it is tagged the unit rides the weekly bulk collection at no extra item charge. A household that prefers to haul its own appliance takes it to the Lake County Solid Waste Facility, where appliances are charged per unit.

Put bulk items out with the weekly Waste Management collection

A Mentor household on a public residential street with an appliance, a piece of furniture or another large item that will not fit in the garbage container.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Single family homes on public residential streets served by the city's Waste Management contract, where bulk items are included in the quarterly rate for garbage and recycling; condominiums and apartments on private roads must arrange service through their own management.
Arrange it
Set the items at the curb on the regular collection day, no later than 7:00 A.M. and no earlier than 3:00 P.M. the day before, and leave them out until the separate bulk truck arrives. Waste Management customer service is at (866) 797-9018 and the city Public Works number is (440) 974-5781.

Tires, hazardous materials, yard waste, construction and demolition debris, large auto parts and dead animals are refused. Air conditioners and refrigerators must have the CFCs removed and a certified technician's tag attached before pickup, and there are no callbacks for a missed pile.

From $5 for minimum car load charge for up to 330 pounds of household waste, with a pickup load up to 660 pounds charged at the higher minimum, pre-approved construction and demolition debris charged at the same per ton rate as weighed waste generated inside Lake County, appliances charged per unit, tires charged per tire up to six, and televisions and monitors charged per unit at the electronics drop-off. Loads delivered to the county facility at 2039 Blase Nemeth Road; waste generated outside Lake County is charged at a higher per ton rate plus additional generation fees, and the universal waste and roundup programmes are for residents only.

Drive to 2039 Blase Nemeth Road, Painesville, OH 44077 during operating hours, Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and use the drop-off building or the landfill face as the facility staff direct. Mixed recycling bins and the residential electronics drop-off are free, and the universal waste counter opens only on Saturdays.

Scrap tires are not landfilled and are limited to six per trip without rims, construction and demolition debris has to be pre-approved, the universal waste counter refuses propane tanks, gasoline, kerosene, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, ammunition, medical waste, butane torches, latex paint and PCB light fixtures, and holiday closures change the standard hours.

Self hauling in Mentor runs through the Lake County Solid Waste Facility at 2039 Blase Nemeth Road in Painesville, open Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM with alternate holiday hours. Household waste is charged at a car load minimum for up to 330 pounds, a higher pickup minimum up to 660 pounds, or by the ton as weighed waste generated inside Lake County, and pre-approved construction and demolition debris is charged at that same per ton rate. Appliances are charged per unit, tires off the rim are limited to six per trip and charged per tire, and clean excavated soil has its own flat load rate. Mixed recycling bins and the residential electronics drop-off are free for county residents, televisions and monitors carry a small per unit charge, and the universal waste counter for paint, batteries, bulbs, cleaners, mercury devices and pool chemicals opens only on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and only takes material from residents in original containers. Twice a year the county replaces that counter with a free household hazardous roundup at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 1301 Mentor Ave in Painesville, which adds propane tanks, fire extinguishers, kerosene, unknown chemicals, roofing tars, lawn and pool chemicals and oil-based paints. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Appliance removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Mentor.

How much does appliance removal cost in Mentor?

A full-size household refrigerator is $109 as a single item. A washing machine is $109, and a dryer is $109. Other appliances have their own catalog prices. Choose each item to see your exact total before booking; disposal and recycling costs are included in the item price.

Can I get same-day appliance pickup in Mentor?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Your pickup is scheduled for a day rather than an exact arrival appointment, and we text you before arrival. Have the appliance disconnected and ready outside by your pickup readiness time.

Can you take a washing machine and dryer in one pickup?

Yes. Add one Washing machine and one Dryer so both units are included in the price. They are separate items, even when you bought them as a set. If yours is a single combined unit or the machines still need to be unstacked, contact us before booking to confirm the scope.

Will you disconnect my appliance or carry it out?

Dropcurb picks up appliances that are already disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange uninstallation, utility disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Use a qualified professional for gas, hardwired or plumbing connections when needed. We handle loading and haul-away from the outdoor pickup spot.

Can I book if the delivery company did not take my old appliance?

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own. Select the old appliance, choose a pickup day and arrange for it to be disconnected and accessible outside. If your new delivery is still ahead, confirm the retailer’s haul-away arrangements before booking a separate pickup.

What has to happen before an old refrigerator goes out in Mentor?

The refrigerant has to come out and the unit has to be tagged by a certified technician before it is collected, because the city requires CFC removal in air conditioners and refrigerators before bulk pickup. Once the unit is tagged, it goes to the curb by 7:00 A.M. on the collection day as a bulk item at no extra item charge inside the quarterly Waste Management service. A household that hauls its own appliance can take it to the Lake County Solid Waste Facility, where appliances are charged per unit.Official guidance

When are bulk items collected in Mentor?

Every week, on the same day as garbage and recycling, by a separate truck that runs between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Appliances, furniture and other large items that will not fit in a container are eligible at no extra item charge inside the quarterly residential service billed by Waste Management. Everything goes out no later than 7:00 A.M. and no earlier than 3:00 P.M. the day before collection, there are no callbacks, and a weekday holiday pushes the whole schedule one day.Official guidance

What does Mentor's curbside service cost?

Garbage and recycling are billed at the published quarterly rate by Waste Management, and bulk items, yard waste and the weekly garbage collection are all inside that service rather than charged per item. Service covers single family homes on public residential streets, while condominiums and apartments on private roads are outside the programme and must arrange their own hauler. Waste Management customer service is at (866) 797-9018 and the city Public Works number is (440) 974-5781.Official guidance
