Mattresses and box springs are bulk items that go out on the weekly rubbish day, and Rumpke requires both to be wrapped in sealable plastic. The county district states there are no local mattress recycling options, so the city collection is the published route.

When & how
Place the wrapped mattress on the tree lawn within three feet of the kerb by 7 a.m. on your weekly rubbish day.
Get it ready
Wrap the whole mattress or box spring in sealable plastic before it goes out, and keep it dry and clear of the cart. The county notes a good mattress can be donated, and that a transfer station is the alternative when the city route does not fit.
Refuse, yard waste and bulk trash go within three feet of the kerb by 7 a.m. on the collection day. Material may be set out the day before, but never before noon.
Rumpke requires discarded mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture such as sofas to be wrapped in sealable plastic so bedbugs cannot reach the crews. Large cardboard boxes that do not fit the carts have to be broken down, folded and set beside the cart.
