City cost & eligibility
No retained city page names a mattress or prints a bedding price. Operation Pride accepts furniture and household goods and publishes no per item charge beyond the monthly program rate, so call the sanitation department on 580-226-8855 and confirm whether a mattress or box spring counts as accepted furniture.
When & how
Confirm the piece first, then place it out for the Operation Pride service week or take it to the drop-off center during posted hours.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress whole and separate from household trash, and keep the box spring with it if the department treats a set as one accepted item. Keep any wet or soiled bedding out of the pile until the department has confirmed the route.
Operation Pride sweeps each section of the city about every eight weeks, and no appointment is needed. Keep all bulky waste within ten feet of the curb, pavement edge or road in an accessible open area, have it out no earlier or later than the weekend before the scheduled Monday and by 7 a.m. that Monday, and keep it away from power lines and low branches so the overhead grappler can reach it. Nothing goes on a gas meter, manhole, sewer clean out, storm sewer or water meter, and bulky waste may not sit in an alley, a yard easement or a driveway.
Leaving bulky items out for an extended period makes the city look unsightly and defeats the purpose of Operation Pride, so the code enforcement officer contacts anyone violating the ordinance and asks them to remove the debris. If the property owner does not comply, the city removes the material at the owner's expense, with a minimum charge per load plus an administration fee added to the water bill.
