Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Oversized household items leave on a booked curbside bulky pickup, on one of the two citywide cleanups a year, or in a self-hauled load at the Transfer Station. The bulky pickup runs on two Saturdays a month and carries a flat fee.
Furniture is refused in the polycart and is named as an accepted residential item at the Transfer Station, so a couch leaves on the booked bulky pickup, on the cleanup day for the household's own collection route, or in a self-hauled load.
Mattresses have their own published rule at the Transfer Station: a Norman household may bring one mattress or a mattress and box spring set free each day, and each additional piece carries a charge. The cleanup day and the bulky pickup are the other two routes.
A free self-serve area beside the household hazardous waste facility takes most scrap metal and white goods from Norman residents, and the Transfer Station takes appliances as part of its residential load. The published exclusions are what decide the route for a given unit.
A unit that holds refrigerant is the one item with an explicit condition at every Norman gate: the Freon has to be captured by a certified technician and the unit tagged before the city or the transfer station will take it, and the free white goods area refuses these units outright.
Norman has a gap in its own electronics program. The Transfer Station lists televisions, computers and phones as prohibited toxic waste, and the household hazardous waste facility states it cannot accept electronics at all, so the city route is a periodic e-waste collection event and the fallback is a private recycler on the state list.
A household remodel is on the Transfer Station's residential accepted list, which makes a self-hauled load the practical route, while the cleanup day refuses remodeling and demolition debris and commercial construction debris pays the standard gate rate.
Exercise equipment is not named on any Norman list, so a treadmill or a weight machine is booked as a bulky item or set out on a cleanup day after the department confirms it, because the cleanup excludes remodeling debris and specific hazard categories rather than large household goods.
The handoff matters
The polycart goes to the curb or alley no later than 7:00 a.m. on the collection day, within two feet of the curb with the handles facing away from the street and three to four feet of clearance from cars, mailboxes, trees and shrubs. It may be put out no earlier than noon the day before and has to come back in by noon the day after, and all trash stays bagged inside the cart.
