Have the refrigerant purged and the certification sticker affixed before a refrigerator leaves the property, empty the unit and secure the doors, and note that a non-metal appliance is not covered by the free metal appliance line, so confirm before dropping one off.
Weekly collection is part of the city utility rate
Stillwater's utility provides municipal collection for residents and businesses, serving single-family homes, duplexes, mobile homes and addresses up to three miles outside the city limits. Inside the city limits the monthly rate buys weekly household trash, weekly single-stream recycling, glass recycling on the first collection day of the month, weekly yard waste except on that first collection day and on holidays, access to the Convenience Collection Center, and curbside collection of Pay-As-You-Throw bags. Trash and recycling are collected even on holidays, but there is no service in the weeks of New Year's, July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas, when pickup is delayed one day. The 2026 cart rates run from 17.36 a month for a 35 gallon cart to 23.11 for 96 gallons, with 96 gallons and house-side service at 35.17, and an extra out-of-schedule cart empty costs 15 dollars.
Bulk items have a curbside price and a drop-off price
The city publishes both routes. For a curbside collection the trash page says to call (405) 742-8245 to arrange pickup for furniture, appliances or electronics and to ask about fees, and the 2026 residential rate schedule answers that question with bulk collection at 25 dollars per item and a special collection fee of 25 dollars per two cubic yards. The drop-off alternative is the Convenience Collection Center at 807 S. Perkins Road, where furniture is 10, 15 or 20 dollars by size, any mattress is 10 dollars, electronics are 5, 10 or 15 dollars, any television or monitor is 25 dollars, wood loads and carpet loads are banded from 10 to 25 dollars, and metal appliances including microwaves, tires up to two a day without rims, scrap metal, car and rechargeable batteries, antifreeze and cooking oil are free. A move-in or move-out cleanup of 20 bags or boxes is free twice a year.
The Convenience Collection Center is a staffed drive-through and it is not open to every load. Residents must bring a City of Stillwater utility bill issued within the last three months and identification whose last name or address matches the bill, and trailers are prohibited. The center refuses ammunition, construction debris, hazardous waste, explosive materials, items prohibited by law, medical waste and non-recyclable commercial waste, which is why renovation material and household chemicals have to be handled another way. It also sets the rules for what it does take: yard waste is limited to one load a day of no more than 120 cubic feet with limbs under eight feet, tires are limited to two a day without rims, an appliance containing refrigerant must be purged with a certification sticker affixed, sharps must arrive in a medical sharps container, and as of May 1, 2026 liquid latex paint is no longer accepted and paint must be dried before it goes into the trash cart.
