The county publishes no bulky item amounts, so ask your collection company for an estimate and to schedule the pickup. A mattress or box spring dropped off at the Metro Central transfer station is free for residential customers, up to four a day, while a car bed, foldout sofa bed, futon, crib mattress, waterbed or air mattress is charged as garbage instead.
When & how
The bulky collection day can differ from the normal garbage and recycling day, and the collection company sets the appointment when the pickup is scheduled.
Get it ready
Set the bedding out where the collection company tells you on the scheduled bulky day, keep it dry and keep it clear of the carts. A coolant appliance is charged a published per appliance amount with a limit of five a day, tires are charged for the first tire and less for each additional one with a fifteen tire daily limit, garbage pays a published minimum for loads up to 240 pounds plus a per ton rate above that, and a transaction fee applies to each load, so check the current rates before leaving.
Arrange it
Drive the load to 6161 NW 61st Ave in Portland, arrive between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., separate the material by type for the right rate, cover any loose load because uncovered loads pay more, and keep hazardous material for the separate facility on the same site.
