Collection comes from a licensed hauler, not a city crew
Special rules apply
Eugene licenses the haulers that collect residential garbage, recycling and yard debris inside the city limits, issues no more than eight licenses, requires every licensee to provide curbside recycling and yard debris collection, and sets the minimum rates the licensees may charge, which a hauler may exceed by up to ten percent.
City cost & eligibility
No single municipal collection price applies, because the city sets a minimum rate schedule and each licensed hauler may charge up to ten percent above it, so confirm the container size, the collection frequency, the food waste or yard debris option and the current charge with the hauler that serves the address.
When & how
Basic residential service is a monthly subscription at a container size and collection frequency: twenty gallon monthly, thirty two gallon every other week, thirty two gallon weekly, sixty gallon weekly or ninety gallon weekly, with the smallest container limited to non putrescible material.
Get it ready
Choose the container and frequency the household actually fills, because the schedule prices larger containers and weekly service higher, and keep unacceptable materials out of every container so the load is not refused or assessed the contamination fee.
Major appliances are named unacceptable materials in the city collection rule, so they cannot ride in a curbside container. Lane County transfer stations take them at a per appliance charge, appliances containing refrigerant must be empty, cords must not be cut and refrigerants must not be drained.

$25 per appliance at a Lane County transfer station. for appliances delivered to a county site, which accept them at every station except Sharps Creek; appliances containing refrigerant are charged the appliance fee and no RV refrigerator is accepted at any site.

Accepted during the transfer station hours, which run Monday through Saturday at most sites and vary by location, with Glenwood also open on Sunday from April through September.
Get it ready
Leave the appliance empty and intact: do not cut the cord and do not drain the refrigerant, because the station charges the appliance fee for cooling units and recycles them only when they arrive whole. Check reuse stores such as Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, BRING and ReStore before scrapping a working unit.
A customer may put solid waste, recycling, yard debris and organics containers at the curb no earlier than 7 p.m. on the day before the scheduled collection, and must take the empty containers back in no later than midnight on the collection day. The city also asks that empty garbage and recycling bins stay at the curb no more than twenty four hours, and a container may not leave the unobstructed paved part of a sidewalk less than three feet wide.
An appliance containing refrigerant is charged the appliance fee at a Lane County transfer station and must arrive empty. Do not cut the cord and do not drain the refrigerant, because the sites recycle whole units only, and no RV refrigerator is accepted at any station.
