Your garbage and recycling company offers a bulky item pickup for large pieces such as furniture, appliances and mattresses, priced by the county as a flat pick-up fee plus a charge for each item by size and material. The county includes tires and televisions on this route because they must not go in the garbage.
City cost & eligibility
From $16 for flat pick-up fee per visit, with a separate item charge added for each piece set out. The county sets an urban pick-up fee of $16.00 for customers inside the Metropolitan Service District boundary and a rural pick-up fee of $32.00 for customers outside it, and item rates run from $11.39 to $42.50. Confirm which fee applies to the address and the total with your collection company.

Self-hauling from Rockcreek means a trip to a transfer station. Metro Central at 6161 NW 61st Ave. in Portland is open to the general public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and closes only on the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's days. Garbage is charged from a minimum upward and by the ton beyond 240 pounds, separated clean wood and clean yard debris cost less than mixed debris, coolant appliances and tires carry their own per item fees, and a public customer at the staffed scale pays a transaction fee per load. Mattresses, box springs and most metal appliances are free from households, and the station is an Oregon E-Cycles location with a seven item daily limit for computers, monitors, televisions and printers. Tires, mattresses, televisions and appliances are also on the collection company's bulky item list if you would rather not drive, and the county lists other transfer centres on the west side plus a drop-off finder tool for anything unusual.
