Bulky item pickup booked with your collection company
Accepted with preparation
Your garbage and recycling company offers a bulky item pickup for large pieces such as furniture, appliances and mattresses, priced by the county as a flat pick-up fee plus a charge for each item by size and material. The county includes tires and televisions on this route because they must not go in the garbage.
City cost & eligibility
From $16 for flat pick-up fee per visit, with a separate item charge added for each piece set out. The county sets an urban pick-up fee of $16.00 for customers inside the Metropolitan Service District boundary and a rural pick-up fee of $32.00 for customers outside it, and item rates run from $11.39 to $42.50. Confirm which fee applies to the address and the total with your collection company.

Have the items at the agreed spot on the agreed day, because the pick-up fee is billed even when the items are not on site, and call-back rates apply when the set-out does not match the instructions. A mattress is priced by size on the county bulky list: a king set is an extra large item and any other size with its box spring is a large item. A mattress is also one of the few household items a Metro transfer station takes free, up to four per customer per day.

From $27.95 per mattress and box spring set in any size other than king on the August 1, 2026 county bulky rate list, with the flat pick-up fee added. A king set is billed at the extra large item rate, the pick-up fee applies once per visit regardless of how many items go out, and a Metro transfer station takes mattresses and box springs instead at no charge to residential customers.

Keep the mattress dry, wrap it if it will sit out before the pickup, and have it at the agreed spot with its box spring if the set goes together. A mattress never goes in the garbage cart.
Rockcreek is unincorporated, so the county assigns a certificated collection company to each address rather than running a city route. The county's Garbage and Recycling Day tool shows which company collects and on which day, and it carries the service alerts when severe weather delays a route.
Bulky items are not swept up by the weekly cart truck: you call your collection company, the bulky item day may differ from the normal collection day, and the flat pick-up fee is billed even if the items are not out when the crew arrives. Call-back rates apply when a set-out does not match the instructions.

From $51 for minimum charge for a garbage load up to 240 pounds at the general public scale, with heavier loads charged by the ton. Clean yard debris has a $37 minimum, separated clean wood a $42 minimum, coolant appliances are $30 each, and a public customer at a staffed scale also pays a $30 transaction fee per load. Mattresses, box springs, metal appliances and Oregon E-Cycles electronics are free from residential customers.
Arrange it
Load the vehicle, cover the load, take it to 6161 NW 61st Ave. in Portland during public hours, and pay at the scale.
Vehicles and anything with a drive motor, asbestos containing material, burned material and wildfire ash, flat or built up roofing, loads of liquids, petroleum contaminated soil, radioactive metals and electric vehicle batteries are refused.
Self-hauling from Rockcreek means a trip to a transfer station. Metro Central at 6161 NW 61st Ave. in Portland is open to the general public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and closes only on the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's days. Garbage is charged from a minimum upward and by the ton beyond 240 pounds, separated clean wood and clean yard debris cost less than mixed debris, coolant appliances and tires carry their own per item fees, and a public customer at the staffed scale pays a transaction fee per load. Mattresses, box springs and most metal appliances are free from households, and the station is an Oregon E-Cycles location with a seven item daily limit for computers, monitors, televisions and printers. Tires, mattresses, televisions and appliances are also on the collection company's bulky item list if you would rather not drive, and the county lists other transfer centres on the west side plus a drop-off finder tool for anything unusual. Car beds, foldout sofa beds, futons, crib mattresses, waterbeds and air mattresses are not part of the free group and are charged as garbage. The limit is four per customer per day.
