The transfer station takes appliances with refrigerant and without it at two published rates, and the hauler also picks a refrigerator up as a bulk item.
City cost & eligibility
$5 per appliance without refrigerant at the North Marion transfer station, with appliances designed to hold refrigerant charged a higher published rate because the county has the refrigerant professionally removed and documented first. The higher rate applies to every unit built to contain refrigerant whether or not it still holds a charge, and a household that cannot get the appliance to the station books a pickup with the franchised hauler instead.

Get it ready
Leave refrigerant removal to the county, which has the unit assessed by a professional and documented for the state, so never vent or remove refrigerant yourself. Drain and empty anything else that holds liquid before the load moves, because liquid waste is refused at the gate.
The North Marion transfer station stopped accepting tip loads on January 1, 2025, so a trailer or pickup load has to be unloaded by hand. Bring help for anything heavy, and expect the load to be inspected at the scale.

Electronics, container glass, household and vehicle batteries, paint under the PaintCare program, scrap metal that is at least ninety percent metal, mixed paper and cardboard, used motor oil within the per visit limit, and plastic bottles and jugs are all free to drop off. Everything else is billed at the scale.
