Bethlehem does not collect solid waste itself. The city code puts the duty on the property owner to contract with a private hauler, and the only city-published large-item rule is a bundle capped at three feet by three feet with prior Health Department approval.

Get it ready
Empty the unit and remove the doors so nothing can be trapped inside, and keep a dishwasher, air conditioner, refrigerator or freezer off the recycling center load because the center refuses those units. Confirm the route for a unit that holds a refrigerant with the property's hauler or the center at 610-865-7082 before it leaves the property.
Bethlehem puts both streams in the same window. Containers may not go out before 6 p.m. on the day before collection, and they have to be back within five feet of the building no later than 8 p.m. on the collection day. Solid waste containers must be rigid, leak proof and lidded, household waste must be bagged inside them, and a resident's own recycling container must be no larger than 30 gallons and marked recycling.
Recycling, leaves, yard waste and household garbage are four separate streams in Bethlehem. Yard waste and leaves are collected by the city, grass clippings have to be mulched into the yard rather than put out, the recycling containers take only the designated recyclables, and construction material or furniture put out with any of those streams can bring a violation.
