The City runs recycling, leaves and yard waste through its Recycling Bureau, with biweekly curbside recycling and city drop-off sites on Illick's Mill Road and Schoenersville Road. Solid waste is different: the city code puts the duty on the property owner to contract with a private hauler, and collection runs Monday through Saturday between 5 or 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. depending on the side of the city. Trash must be bagged inside an approved container, and rubbish that will not fit may only be bundled up to three feet by three feet with prior approval from the City Department of Health. Furniture, mattresses and renovation material therefore travel on the property's hauler rather than a city route, electronics and household chemicals go to the counties, and the recycling center takes white goods such as washers, dryers, ovens and stoves plus other scrap metal that is at least half metal.
