Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Large items and how they leave

Special rules apply

Bethlehem does not collect solid waste itself. The city code puts the duty on the property owner to contract with a private hauler, and the only city-published large-item rule is a bundle capped at three feet by three feet with prior Health Department approval.

City cost & eligibility
No city rate exists because collection is a private contract. Each hauler sets its own charge for a large item, so confirm the price and the preparation rules with the hauler that serves the property.
When & how
Call the hauler on the property's account to arrange the pickup and confirm the collection day. Solid waste collection runs Monday through Saturday between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the south side and 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the north side.
Get it ready
Bag and drain household waste before it goes into an approved container, which must be rigid, leak proof and have a tight-fitting lid. Rubbish that will not fit in a container may only be bundled, no larger than three feet by three feet, and only after the City Department of Health gives prior approval. Containers go out no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before collection and come back within five feet of the building by 8 p.m. on collection day.

Couches and household furniture

Special rules apply

Furniture is not part of the city recycling programme and no city collection route is published for it, so the couch travels on the property's private hauler contract.

City cost & eligibility
The hauler sets the price for a furniture pickup. Ask about the charge and about how the piece has to be prepared before it goes out, and note that the city requires prior Health Department approval for a bundled item that will not fit in a container.
When & how
Call the hauler that serves the property to arrange the pickup, and confirm the day on the north or south side collection window the city sets.
Get it ready
Keep furniture out of the recycling containers and the yard waste, empty drawers and remove cushions and loose parts, and if the piece will not fit in an approved container keep it to the three foot by three foot bundle limit and get the Health Department approval first.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Out after 6 p.m., back in by 8 p.m.

Bethlehem puts both streams in the same window. Containers may not go out before 6 p.m. on the day before collection, and they have to be back within five feet of the building no later than 8 p.m. on the collection day. Solid waste containers must be rigid, leak proof and lidded, household waste must be bagged inside them, and a resident's own recycling container must be no larger than 30 gallons and marked recycling.

Keep the streams apart

Recycling, leaves, yard waste and household garbage are four separate streams in Bethlehem. Yard waste and leaves are collected by the city, grass clippings have to be mulched into the yard rather than put out, the recycling containers take only the designated recyclables, and construction material or furniture put out with any of those streams can bring a violation. Anything that will not fit an approved container has to be bundled within three feet by three feet and approved by the City Department of Health first.

City of Bethlehem Recycling Bureau and the property's private waste hauler

Arrange the pickup with the property's private hauler

A Bethlehem household with furniture, a mattress, an appliance, exercise equipment or renovation material that the city's recycling programme will not take.

Cost & conditions
Solid waste collection is a private contract, so no city rate applies. The hauler that serves the property sets its own price for a large item, and a permitted facility sets its own tipping fee for a renovation load.
Arrange it
The city code requires the property owner to provide for solid waste collection by a hauler, and the collection window is Monday through Saturday between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the south side and 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the north side. Call the hauler to book the item and confirm the day.

The city publishes no item list for a hauler pickup. Household waste has to be bagged in an approved container, and a bundled item that will not fit must stay within three feet by three feet with prior Health Department approval.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-haul in Bethlehem splits by material. Household trash, furniture, mattresses, the appliances the recycling center refuses, exercise equipment and renovation material all run through the private hauler the property owner is required to retain, because the city itself collects only recycling, leaves and yard waste. The city drop-off for the rest is the Theis/Cornfeld Recycling Center at 635 Illick's Mill Rd., open Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., which takes paper, glass, cans, plastics numbered 1 through 7 and white goods and other scrap metal that is at least half metal, but no dishwashers, air conditioners, refrigerators or freezers, no tanks, no sealed vessels and nothing wet. Yard waste and leaves go to the city facilities on Illick's Mill Road and Schoenersville Road, with the yard waste facility closed December, February and March. Electronics and household chemicals are county routes, Lehigh County at 610-782-3073 or Northampton County at 610-829-6500, or GERSolutions for e-waste. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Furniture removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Bethlehem.

How much does furniture removal cost in Bethlehem?

Choose the type and size of each piece to see its price. For example, a medium dresser is $79 as the first item or $29 as an additional item. Your total starts with the highest first-item price in your selection, then uses the additional-item price for every other item. Review the complete total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I get same-day furniture pickup in Bethlehem?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup and choose from the dates shown at checkout. Arrange to have the furniture outside according to your confirmation. You receive a text when your hauler is on the way and photos after collection.

Will you remove furniture from inside my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange indoor carrying, including any interior stairs or elevator trip. We load and take away the furniture from an accessible outdoor location. Check your building’s rules and plan the route out before booking.

Can you take several different furniture items in one pickup?

Yes. Add each piece and its quantity to one booking. A dining table and four chairs are five items; a separate mirror is not included with a dresser. You can mix eligible items from different rooms and review their combined total before paying.

Do I need to take furniture apart before pickup?

You arrange any disassembly needed to move the furniture out of your home and into an accessible outdoor pickup spot. Dropcurb does not provide indoor disassembly or carrying. If you are unsure which catalog choice matches a dismantled or unusual piece, send a photo and ask before booking.

Who collects large items in Bethlehem?

A private hauler. The city code requires every property owner to provide for solid waste collection by a hauler and forbids delegating that duty to tenants, so the hauler on the account sets the price and the arrangement for a large item. The city collects recycling, leaves and yard waste instead.Official guidance

Will the city take a couch in Bethlehem?

Not on a city route. Solid waste collection is the property owner's private hauler contract, and the recycling programme does not take furniture, so the couch has to be arranged with the hauler. A piece that will not fit a container may only be bundled within the three foot limit with prior approval from the City Department of Health.Official guidance

Who collects what in Bethlehem?

The City collects recycling, leaves and yard waste through its Recycling Bureau, with biweekly curbside recycling and drop-off sites on Illick's Mill Road and Schoenersville Road. Solid waste is the property owner's private hauler contract, so furniture, mattresses, appliances and renovation material are arranged with the hauler, and electronics and household chemicals go to Lehigh or Northampton County.Official guidance

What rules apply to a large item in Bethlehem?

Household waste has to be bagged inside an approved rigid, leak proof container, and rubbish that will not fit may only be bundled up to three feet by three feet and only with prior approval from the City Department of Health. Containers go out no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before collection and come back within five feet of the building by 8 p.m. on collection day, and the private hauler sets the price for the pickup.Official guidance
