Get it ready
The unit has to be in working order when the crew arrives, and a refrigerator or freezer has to be clean, empty and defrosted, so defrost it in advance and leave the doors on for the haul. Keep the unit off the curb on the refuse day, because metal bearing items are refused there.
Everything goes out on the regular refuse day, not before
Garbage and commingled recycling are collected on the same weekly route, and material should go to the curb no earlier than the night before the scheduled pickup. A weekday holiday pushes every collection that week one day later. Missed garbage goes to the Public Works dispatcher at 570-348-4178.
The city refuses items containing metal at the curb and says metal must be removed from an item and disposed of separately. Accepted material includes oil based paint, stains, thinners, solvents, poisons, pool and lawn treatments, automotive fluids with a per container limit, batteries other than electric vehicle batteries, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks and liquid mercury, and latex paint is not accepted. Paint can also be dried out with kitty litter and then bagged.
