Screens and computers are not a curbside item. The city runs registered electronics recycling events that are free to residents, and the state law requires manufacturers to run recycling programmes that accept the same device types.

No charge. Free to City of Scranton residents at the city's electronics recycling events, which require registration. Also free through a manufacturer programme under the state Covered Device Recycling Act, whose collection sites may be used by small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, and through the retailers and centres the city lists such as Best Buy.
When & how

Get it ready
Remove ink, toner cartridges and paper from a printer before handover, and wipe personal data from computers and drives. Keep televisions, monitors, computers and cords out of the garbage and the recycling, and keep batteries, bulbs and chemicals with the household chemical route instead.
Everything goes out on the regular refuse day, not before
Garbage and commingled recycling are collected on the same weekly route, and material should go to the curb no earlier than the night before the scheduled pickup. A weekday holiday pushes every collection that week one day later. Missed garbage goes to the Public Works dispatcher at 570-348-4178.
Chemicals, bulbs and batteries never go in the cart
Household hazardous waste is not a curbside item. Lackawanna County runs a collection on Saturday October 31, 2026 at the Pavilion at Montage Mountain, 1000 Montage Mountain Road, open to county residents only with pre-registration required. Accepted material includes oil based paint, stains, thinners, solvents, poisons, pool and lawn treatments, automotive fluids with a per container limit, batteries other than electric vehicle batteries, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks and liquid mercury, and latex paint is not accepted. Paint can also be dried out with kitty litter and then bagged.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Data erasure and certified data destruction are not included in Dropcurb removal. Back up the information you need, then follow the manufacturer’s sign-out and reset instructions before pickup. If a device cannot be erased or contains sensitive business information, arrange suitable data handling before giving it away.
