One cart, one day, refuse, organics and recycling together
State College residential refuse runs Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday depending on the address, with the day set when the account is opened through the Borough Finance Department. Refuse, organics and the red-bin recycling all come on the same collection day, the cart goes to the curb by 7 a.m. with the lid closed and three feet of clearance from trees, signs and other carts, and anything that does not fit goes beside the Borough cart in a container. Loose or fine waste such as ashes, plastic wrap, pet hair, kitty litter, tissues and packing peanuts has to be bagged, while larger items such as pizza boxes and lumber scraps can go straight in the cart.
