The town includes appliances among the items accepted at the Convenience Center, and the county's recycling page puts appliances and scrap metal, including refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers and microwaves, at Shanklin, St Helena, Bluffton and Hilton Head. The county asks that appliance doors be taken off before disposal.

There is no island curbside route, so the centre is the answer
The town's waste pages cover litter and recycling in public spaces rather than a municipal collection route, and the county tells commercial businesses to contract a private hauler. Households bring their material to the county Convenience Center on Summit Drive, where the gate requires a Beaufort County solid waste decal for anything that is not recyclable. The public bins in parks and on the beach are not a household route: they take bottles and cans only.
The centre is open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. six days a week and closed Wednesday and on county holidays, with a three visits a week limit per household and one decal per property owner. Household garbage arrives bagged, bulky items arrive separate from the recycling, bottles and jars come without caps or lids, recyclables stay loose rather than bagged, paper has to be larger than a standard envelope, and bottles and cans should not be crushed. Trailers are allowed at the Hilton Head site but only up to five feet by eight feet.
