Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Special rules apply

Electronics no longer go to the neighbourhood centres. The county states that computer screens, televisions, tablets, cell phones and similar electronics are available by appointment only at 106 Shanklin Road in Beaufort and 9 Benton Field Road in Bluffton, and that they are not available for drop-off at the other centres, which includes Summit Drive. Periodic electronic recycling events fill the gaps.

City cost & eligibility
The county publishes the two appointment sites and the event route but no fee for household electronics. Book the drop-off and confirm any charge with Beaufort County Solid Waste on 843-255-2736 before a television or computer leaves the house.
When & how
Book an appointment for the Shanklin Road site in Beaufort or the Benton Field Road site in Bluffton, or watch the county calendar for an electronics recycling event, rather than taking a screen to Summit Drive.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from computers and phones, keep cables and remote controls with the device, and leave the screen off any convenience center load because e-waste is refused at the residential centres other than the two appointment sites.

What the centre will not take

Electronics are refused at the residential centres other than the two appointment sites in Beaufort and Bluffton, so a television or computer has to be booked or saved for a county electronics event. Chemicals belong in the household hazardous waste shed rather than the general load, and ammunition, fireworks, medical waste, smoke detectors and large propane tanks are prohibited there. Construction and demolition material is allowed only in small residential amounts, and commercial or contractor loads have to go through a private hauler.

Town of Hilton Head Island with Beaufort County Solid Waste and Recycling

Book an electronics drop-off appointment

A household with a television, computer screen, tablet, cell phone or similar electronics.

Cost & conditions
The county publishes the two appointment sites and the event route but no household fee. Book through the county e-waste drop-off link and confirm any charge on 843-255-2736 before the trip.
Arrange it
Book a drop-off at 106 Shanklin Road in Beaufort or 9 Benton Field Road in Bluffton, or watch the county calendar for an electronics recycling event.

Appointments are required, the two sites are the only centres in the county that take e-waste, and everything else, including the Hilton Head convenience center at Summit Drive, refuses it.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul on Hilton Head Island means the county Convenience Center at 26 Summit Drive, open 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and closed Wednesday and on county holidays. Household garbage arrives bagged, bulky items such as furniture go in separately, and appliances, tires, batteries and used oil are all accepted there, with appliance doors taken off first and oil limited to ten gallons per trip. The gate needs a Beaufort County solid waste decal for anything that is not recyclable, one decal per property owner, and each household is allowed three visits a week. Two streams go elsewhere: electronics such as televisions, computer screens, tablets and phones are booked by appointment at 106 Shanklin Road in Beaufort or 9 Benton Field Road in Bluffton, with periodic collection events in between, and household chemicals go to a county household hazardous waste shed whose locations the county does not print on the pages read, so that call comes first on 843-255-2736. Construction and demolition debris is limited to small residential amounts at four centres including this one, and commercial or contractor work has to go through a private hauler. The island's public park and beach bins take bottles and cans only, so they are not a household route. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Hilton Head Island.

How much does TV removal cost in Hilton Head Island?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Hilton Head Island?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do TVs and computers go on Hilton Head Island?

They are booked by appointment rather than dropped at Summit Drive. Beaufort County says televisions, computer screens, tablets, cell phones and similar electronics are available by appointment at 106 Shanklin Road in Beaufort and 9 Benton Field Road in Bluffton, and are not available at the other centres, with periodic electronics events as the alternative.Official guidance

Can I put a television in the convenience center load?

No. Beaufort County states that electronic waste is available by appointment only at 106 Shanklin Road in Beaufort and 9 Benton Field Road in Bluffton and is not available for drop-off at the other centres, so a television or computer goes to one of those two sites or to a county electronics recycling event.Official guidance
