When & how
Take the device to a Charleston County drop-off site or to a big box electronic store. Do not put it in the garbage roll cart, in the trash pile or in the recycling, because the Town refuses e-waste in all three.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before the device leaves the house, and keep cables, batteries and stands with the device or send loose batteries to a retailer that takes them. Keep the television out of the trash pile even though the pile takes appliances and metal, because the electronics exclusion is written separately.
Four categories that never go to the Mount Pleasant curb
Electronics are excluded by environmental rule, so televisions, computers and other electronic equipment go to a Charleston County drop site or a big box store and not to the cart, the trash pile or the recycling. Hazardous material such as old pesticides and creosote materials, used oil, batteries and wet paint are refused, with oil going to the Town's maintenance facility on Sweetgrass Basket Parkway at no more than 5 gallons a visit and paint and chemicals going to the county's Awendaw Convenience Center or Bees Ferry Landfill. Compact fluorescent bulbs may not go in the garbage or trash because of mercury and are taken unbroken to a county convenience centre or a store collection bin. Propane tanks go back where they were purchased or to a hazardous waste collection day, never into a cart.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
