Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Exercise equipment is named on no Town list. The trash pile does take furniture and other non-food items that cannot be donated or recycled, which describes most machines, but the category is unnamed so the piece stays a confirmation.

No exercise machine charge is published, and the service sits inside the collection the property already receives, so confirm the machine with Public Services at 843-849-2022 before it goes to the curb. The Town also asks for a call before collection on items a resident does not want picked up.
When & how
Confirm the machine on 843-849-2022, then put it in the trash pile at the curb by 7 a.m. on the garbage day, separated from bagged yard debris and from the recycling.
Get it ready
Break the machine down as far as it will come apart, remove the console and any battery pack, and keep loose weights with the frame. Keep it out of the roll cart and clear of utilities, and keep it out of the road travel lane.
Mount Pleasant runs two collections on one day. The roll cart takes household garbage, and a separate trash pile takes bagged yard debris, tree limbs, appliances, metal and furniture. Everything is at the curb by 7 a.m., the piles are separated, and only town-issued carts are collected.

When & how
Carts and piles go to the curb by 7 a.m. on the garbage day, and the Town states that there is no set collection time because routes shift with traffic, volume and weather. Carts come back in within 12 hours of collection.
Get it ready
Separate the piles, because different trucks take different materials and the Town asks residents not to mix yard debris with other trash. Use brown paper yard bags for loose leaves and grass clippings, cut tree limbs to 4 feet or shorter and 8 inches or smaller with no stumps, break cardboard down inside the roll cart, and keep the carts and piles clear of manholes, storm drains and utilities without blocking the road.
Only town carts, only household garbage, and back in within 12 hours
Mount Pleasant issues one 90-gallon or one 65-gallon roll cart at no cost, with a second cart available for a fee through Public Services, and only two carts are allowed per property. The cart has to be at the curb by 7 a.m. with the handles facing the house and comes back in within 12 hours of collection. What goes inside is household garbage, cardboard boxes broken down and put in the cart rather than beside it, and residential medical waste, and sharps must be in a sharps container or a heavy plastic or metal container that is puncture resistant, tightly lidded, marked not recyclable, no more than three quarters full and never glass. Landscape and construction material in the cart stops the garbage from being collected at all, and a container that is not town issued is not collected.
Two trucks, one day, and piles that have to stay apart
The garbage truck and the trash trucks run on the same day, and different trucks take different materials because the yard debris goes for composting while the rest is disposed of differently. That is why the Town asks residents to separate the piles: bagged leaves and grass clippings in brown paper yard bags in one pile, brush and tree limbs at 4 feet or shorter and 8 inches or less in diameter with no stumps, and household appliances, metal items and furniture in another. Landfills do not accept yard debris in plastic bags, plastic bags are not accepted in the cart either, and debris goes on the road by the curb rather than on the lawn, manholes or storm drains, at a safe distance from utilities without blocking the road.
Four categories that never go to the Mount Pleasant curb
Electronics are excluded by environmental rule, so televisions, computers and other electronic equipment go to a Charleston County drop site or a big box store and not to the cart, the trash pile or the recycling. Hazardous material such as old pesticides and creosote materials, used oil, batteries and wet paint are refused, with oil going to the Town's maintenance facility on Sweetgrass Basket Parkway at no more than 5 gallons a visit and paint and chemicals going to the county's Awendaw Convenience Center or Bees Ferry Landfill. Compact fluorescent bulbs may not go in the garbage or trash because of mercury and are taken unbroken to a county convenience centre or a store collection bin. Propane tanks go back where they were purchased or to a hazardous waste collection day, never into a cart.

Acceptance is up to each organisation, so a worn piece may be refused and then need the trash pile instead. Donation does not cover electronics, which still have to go to a county drop site or a big box store.
