Special rules apply

A mattress is not named anywhere on the Town's collectible lists, which name appliances, metal items, household furniture and other non-food items that cannot be donated or recycled. Because the category is unnamed, the packet keeps the piece as a confirmation rather than promising the pickup.

City cost & eligibility
The Town publishes no mattress charge, and its service is included in the collection the property already receives, so confirm the piece with the Public Services Department at 843-849-2022 before the mattress goes to the curb.
When & how
Call 843-849-2022 to confirm the mattress, then put it in the trash pile at the curb by 7 a.m. on the garbage day, separated from the yard debris and from the recycling.
Get it ready
Keep the mattress out of the roll cart, which takes household garbage, broken down cardboard and packaged medical waste only, and out of the yard debris pile, which is collected for composting and has to stay free of other material. Place it on the road by the curb rather than on the lawn, a manhole or a storm drain.
Town trash page with the curb placement rules, the separate pile requirement and separate trucks, the collected yard debris, appliances, metal items and furniture, the refusals covering e-waste, engine parts, hazardous materials, oil, tires, batteries, wet paint, tree stumps, bricks, concrete and contractor generated debris, the compact fluorescent bulb and propane notes, the reuse organisations and the Public Services contactTown curbside collection page with the weekly garbage and trash service on the same day, the 7 a.m. curb time, the definition of trash debris covering bagged yard debris, tree limbs, household appliances and household furniture, the county provision of curbside recycling and the used oil and oyster shell drop-offTown garbage page with the weekly collection and 7 a.m. roll cart rule, the handles toward the house and 12 hour removal rules, the free 90 or 65 gallon cart with a 70 dollar second cart and the two cart limit, the collectible items including cardboard inside the cart and residential medical waste, the refusal of landscape and construction material and non town carts, the prescription take back site and the mercury warning for compact fluorescent bulbs

The trash pile and cart rules

Accepted with preparation

Mount Pleasant runs two collections on one day. The roll cart takes household garbage, and a separate trash pile takes bagged yard debris, tree limbs, appliances, metal and furniture. Everything is at the curb by 7 a.m., the piles are separated, and only town-issued carts are collected.

City cost & eligibility
Garbage and trash collection are included in the Town service the property receives, and no bulky item price is published. One 90-gallon or 65-gallon roll cart is issued at no cost, a second cart costs $70 through the Public Services Department, only two carts are allowed per property, and the cart stays with the property. Confirm the account with Public Services on 843-849-2022.
When & how
Carts and piles go to the curb by 7 a.m. on the garbage day, and the Town states that there is no set collection time because routes shift with traffic, volume and weather. Carts come back in within 12 hours of collection.
Get it ready
Separate the piles, because different trucks take different materials and the Town asks residents not to mix yard debris with other trash. Use brown paper yard bags for loose leaves and grass clippings, cut tree limbs to 4 feet or shorter and 8 inches or smaller with no stumps, break cardboard down inside the roll cart, and keep the carts and piles clear of manholes, storm drains and utilities without blocking the road.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Only town carts, only household garbage, and back in within 12 hours

Mount Pleasant issues one 90-gallon or one 65-gallon roll cart at no cost, with a second cart available for a fee through Public Services, and only two carts are allowed per property. The cart has to be at the curb by 7 a.m. with the handles facing the house and comes back in within 12 hours of collection. What goes inside is household garbage, cardboard boxes broken down and put in the cart rather than beside it, and residential medical waste, and sharps must be in a sharps container or a heavy plastic or metal container that is puncture resistant, tightly lidded, marked not recyclable, no more than three quarters full and never glass. Landscape and construction material in the cart stops the garbage from being collected at all, and a container that is not town issued is not collected.

Two trucks, one day, and piles that have to stay apart

The garbage truck and the trash trucks run on the same day, and different trucks take different materials because the yard debris goes for composting while the rest is disposed of differently. That is why the Town asks residents to separate the piles: bagged leaves and grass clippings in brown paper yard bags in one pile, brush and tree limbs at 4 feet or shorter and 8 inches or less in diameter with no stumps, and household appliances, metal items and furniture in another. Landfills do not accept yard debris in plastic bags, plastic bags are not accepted in the cart either, and debris goes on the road by the curb rather than on the lawn, manholes or storm drains, at a safe distance from utilities without blocking the road.

Four categories that never go to the Mount Pleasant curb

Electronics are excluded by environmental rule, so televisions, computers and other electronic equipment go to a Charleston County drop site or a big box store and not to the cart, the trash pile or the recycling. Hazardous material such as old pesticides and creosote materials, used oil, batteries and wet paint are refused, with oil going to the Town's maintenance facility on Sweetgrass Basket Parkway at no more than 5 gallons a visit and paint and chemicals going to the county's Awendaw Convenience Center or Bees Ferry Landfill. Compact fluorescent bulbs may not go in the garbage or trash because of mercury and are taken unbroken to a county convenience centre or a store collection bin. Propane tanks go back where they were purchased or to a hazardous waste collection day, never into a cart.

Put the pile out with the weekly collection

A household with bagged yard debris, tree limbs, an appliance, metal items, furniture, or an oversized piece the Town confirms.

Cost & conditions
Garbage and trash collection are included in the Town service the property receives and no bulky item price is published. One roll cart is issued free, a second cart costs $70 through Public Services, only two carts are allowed per property, and the second cart price is the only published cart figure. Confirm the account on 843-849-2022.
Arrange it
Set the carts and the separate piles at the curb by 7 a.m. on the garbage day. The Town states that there is no set collection time because routes shift, and that the trash trucks run the same day as the garbage truck.

E-waste, engine parts, hazardous materials, used oil, tires, batteries, wet paint, tree stumps, bricks, concrete and contractor-generated debris are all refused, and landscape or construction material in a roll cart stops the garbage from being collected. Only town-issued carts are serviced, and items a resident does not want collected require a call first.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Mount Pleasant is mostly a county trip, because the Town's own collections cover the curb and leave the rest to Charleston County. The Town takes used motor oil and oyster shells only at its maintenance facility on Sweetgrass Basket Parkway, with a five gallon per visit limit on the oil and residential use only. Everything else that the curb refuses goes to a county site: electronics to a Charleston County drop-off site or a big box electronic store, hazardous material such as household cleaners, chemicals and paint to the county's Awendaw Convenience Center or Bees Ferry Landfill, compact fluorescent bulbs unbroken to a county convenience centre or a store collection bin, and landscape and construction material disposed of separately at the landfill because it cannot go in the cart or the trash pile. Charleston County also runs the curbside recycling every other week and the drop sites in the Town that take paper, plastics numbered 1 through 7, cans and glass. The Town publishes no address for the county landfill or the Awendaw centre and no county charge, so the county number 843-720-7111 is the confirmation step before any trip. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Mattress removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Mount Pleasant.

How much does mattress removal cost in Mount Pleasant?

The price depends on the mattress size you choose. A queen mattress is $99 as the first item and $30 as an additional item. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Add any box spring or frame separately, then review your total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I book same-day mattress pickup in Mount Pleasant?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates shown at checkout. Have the mattress outside and accessible according to your confirmation. Your booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time, and we text you when your hauler is on the way.

Is my box spring or bed frame included in mattress removal?

The mattress price covers the mattress only. Add your box spring, bed frame or adjustable base separately if those are going too. Choose the size and type that match each item. The combined price appears before booking.

Will you carry my mattress downstairs or out of my apartment?

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange to move the mattress out of your apartment and down interior stairs before pickup. We load it and take it away from an accessible outdoor spot. Check your building’s access rules before arranging the move outside.

Can you pick up my old mattress when my new one arrives?

You can choose an offered pickup day around your replacement delivery. First check whether the retailer already includes old-mattress removal, and arrange who will bring it outside if needed. Dropcurb books a pickup day, not the retailer’s delivery window. Contact us before booking if access is limited to a short time.

Will Mount Pleasant collect a mattress?

A mattress is not named in the Town's collectible lists, which cover household appliances, metal items, household furniture and other non-food items that cannot be donated or recycled. Confirm the piece with the Public Services Department at 843-849-2022 before setting it out, and if it is accepted put it in the trash pile at the curb by 7 a.m. on the garbage day, separated from the yard debris and the recycling.Official guidance

What goes in the Mount Pleasant trash pile?

Bagged yard debris in brown paper yard bags, brush and tree limbs at 4 feet or shorter and no larger than 8 inches in diameter with no stumps, household appliances and metal items, and household furniture and other non-food items that cannot be donated or recycled. Everything goes to the curb by 7 a.m. on the garbage day in separate piles, and the Town refuses e-waste, tires, batteries, wet paint, hazardous materials, bricks, concrete and contractor-generated debris.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Mount Pleasant?

The Town's Public Services Department collects both the garbage and the trash pile through its Waste Management Division, on the same day each week, with everything at the curb by 7 a.m. Curbside recycling is a different arrangement: Charleston County collects it every other week and runs the drop sites in the Town. The Public Services Department is at 1351 Sweetgrass Basket Parkway on 843-849-2022, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Official guidance

Which carts will the Town collect?

Only town-issued roll carts. The Town issues one 90-gallon or one 65-gallon cart at no cost, a second cart costs $70 through the Public Services Department, and only two carts are allowed per property, with garbage in any other container left behind. Carts go to the curb by 7 a.m. with the handles facing the house and come back in within 12 hours. Landscape and construction material placed in a cart stops the garbage from being collected at all.Official guidance

How does yard debris go out in Mount Pleasant?

Loose leaves and grass clippings go in brown paper yard bags, because the Town requires paper bags for loose yard debris and landfills do not accept yard debris in plastic bags. Brush and tree limbs go in the same pile cut to 4 feet or shorter and no larger than 8 inches in diameter, and stumps are never collected. Yard debris stays in its own pile, separate from appliances, metal items, furniture and the roll cart, because different trucks take the materials to different places.Official guidance
