Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the recycling center bin system, which accepts only cardboard, paper, metals and plastics numbered one and two, and keep any hazardous components out of the cart, because no liquids, flammable or hazardous waste is collected.
Every bulk waste or bulk yard waste pickup has to be pre-scheduled with the Department of Health and Sanitation at 731-425-8545. Bulk waste may sit at the curb no more than forty-eight hours before the pickup, yard waste no more than seven days, and the load must fit inside five feet high by eight feet long by five feet wide.
No liquids, flammable material or hazardous waste is picked up, and those items are held for the City's annual household hazardous waste collection events. The department answers questions about those events at 731-425-8545.
The Jackson Recycling Center at 74B Conalco Drive takes cardboard and paperboard broken down, mixed paper, metals and plastics numbered one and two, with black plastics refused. Residents sort their own material, attendants check for contamination, and the center is free to residents.

No charge. Twelve bulk pickups a year are included in the monthly municipal collection fee for occupied one and two family units, counted in any combination of bulk waste and bulk yard waste.

The load cannot exceed five feet high by eight feet long by five feet wide, bulk and yard waste cannot be combined, appliances need their compressors removed first, and construction or contractor debris is never eligible.
Jackson households that haul their own loads have two published destinations. The Jackson Recycling Center at 74B Conalco Drive takes cardboard, paper, metals and plastics numbered one and two free of charge and is open five days a week with a midday closure. Everything else, including construction and contractor debris, goes to the privately owned Madison County Landfill at 550 Aaron Long Road, which sets its own disposal costs and requires hard hats and safety vests on the property.
