Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Special rules apply

The City does not name electronics in its bulk waste list or its recycling list, so a television or computer has to be confirmed before it goes to the curb.

City cost & eligibility
No city page read here names electronics or publishes a disposal rate for them. A large set may qualify under the bulk size and weight test, the Madison County Landfill takes debris loads on its own terms, and hazardous electronic waste can wait for the City's annual household hazardous waste collection event. Confirm the route with Health and Sanitation at 731-425-8545 and the load cost with the landfill.
When & how
Call 731-425-8545 to ask whether the item qualifies as bulk waste, or contact the landfill about a self haul load.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the recycling center bin system, which accepts only cardboard, paper, metals and plastics numbered one and two, and keep any hazardous components out of the cart, because no liquids, flammable or hazardous waste is collected.

Bulk waste and yard waste pickups

Accepted with preparation

Jackson includes twelve scheduled bulk pickups a year for one and two family units, counted in any combination of household bulk waste and bulk yard waste.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Twelve pickups a year are included in the monthly municipal collection fee for an occupied one or two family unit that pays the fee. Vacant property pickups are subject to fees representing the City's cost.
When & how
Schedule every pickup in advance with the Department of Health and Sanitation. Bulk waste goes out no more than forty-eight hours early, yard waste no more than seven days early, and the whole load must fit within five feet high, eight feet long and five feet wide.
Get it ready
Keep bulk waste and yard waste in separate pickups, keep household refuse out of both, cut yard waste limbs to eight feet or less and twelve inches or less in diameter, and note that the regular weekly service handles anything that fits the cart or a hand pile of three feet high by five feet long by three feet wide, or ten bags of fifty pounds or less.

Bulk pickups are scheduled, not automatic

Every bulk waste or bulk yard waste pickup has to be pre-scheduled with the Department of Health and Sanitation at 731-425-8545. Bulk waste may sit at the curb no more than forty-eight hours before the pickup, yard waste no more than seven days, and the load must fit inside five feet high by eight feet long by five feet wide.

City collection with the monthly fee

Occupied one and two family homes inside Jackson that pay the municipal collection fee.

Cost & conditions
No charge. One rolling cart of 90 to 96 gallons and twice weekly collection are included in the monthly municipal collection fee, and twelve bulk pickups a year ride along with it. A second cart carries a fee, and vacant property pickups are billed at the City's cost.
Arrange it
Use the City cart, put it at the curb by 7 a.m. on the route day, and call 731-425-8545 for carts, missed collections or hardship service.

Only the City cart may be used, because the trucks are built for it, and material outside the cart is collected only when it fits a hand pile or a scheduled bulk pickup.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Twelve bulk pickups a year are included in the monthly municipal collection fee for occupied one and two family units, counted in any combination of bulk waste and bulk yard waste.

Arrange it

Self haul to the Madison County Landfill

Households and contractors with construction debris, mixed debris or a load the City will not collect.

Cost & conditions
The landfill is privately owned and publishes no rate on the city pages, so disposal costs are quoted on inquiry. The City directs debris there and tells visitors that hard hats and safety vests are required on the property.
Arrange it
Contact the landfill at 550 Aaron Long Road before hauling, confirm the accepted material and cost, and arrive with the required safety equipment.

Contractors are responsible for hauling their own waste, and the City's bulk program does not take construction or contractor debris at all.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Jackson households that haul their own loads have two published destinations. The Jackson Recycling Center at 74B Conalco Drive takes cardboard, paper, metals and plastics numbered one and two free of charge and is open five days a week with a midday closure. Everything else, including construction and contractor debris, goes to the privately owned Madison County Landfill at 550 Aaron Long Road, which sets its own disposal costs and requires hard hats and safety vests on the property. Household hazardous waste is not accepted at either place and waits for the City's annual household hazardous waste collection events, and liquids, flammable material and hazardous waste are never collected at the curb. Madison County Landfill

550 Aaron Long Road, Jackson, TN 38301

Debris and waste that the City will not collect, including construction and contractor material brought in by the party that generated it.

The landfill is privately owned and sets its own access and disposal terms. Visitors must wear hard hats and safety vests while on the property, and contractors remain responsible for hauling their own waste there.
