Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are refused at the city's mobile hazardous waste collections and taken free at the county convenience centers, where monitors and televisions are named on the accepted list for Rutherford County residents.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Rutherford County convenience centers accept select electronics from county residents at no cost, including laptops and desktop computers, phones and tablets, game consoles, media, monitors and televisions, cords and chargers, and small devices with a cord or internal battery.
When & how
Take the equipment to a center that accepts electronics, such as Leanna on Sulphur Springs Road, Smyrna on G Street or Rockvale on Rockvale Road, during their published hours. Business or large quantity loads go to City eWaste at 615-807-0520 instead.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before the device is handed over, keep the cords with the equipment, and keep batteries, light bulbs, medical devices, liquids and hazardous material out of the electronics load, because the county refuses all of those. Large household appliances are not part of the programme.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Murfreesboro splits between the city and the county. The city takes bulky items only by appointment, charged per item on the water bill, and it refuses appliances, air conditioners, metal objects, building debris, carpet, automotive waste, chemicals and riding lawn mowers. Rutherford County's convenience centers fill that gap for county residents: Leanna on Sulphur Springs Road, Smyrna on G Street and Rockvale on Rockvale Road take household waste, up to three bulk items a day, recyclables under the single stream pilot, bulk metal at every center except Haley Road, and electronics such as computers, phones, monitors and televisions at no charge, with oil based paint and fluorescent bulbs accepted at Leanna. Mattresses and box springs are a separate programme: since August 1, 2026 they must be recycled through Spring Back Recycling at the designated centers with a fee for each piece paid at disposal, and the transfer station no longer takes them. Construction and demolition loads go to the Rutherford County Transfer Station at 6025 Landfill Road for a tipping fee, where hard hats and high visibility clothing are required and tires, concrete slabs, batteries, liquids and hazardous waste are refused, while the county landfill on the same road accepts only brush and off the rim tires. Household chemicals wait for the county's mobile household hazardous waste collection, which in 2026 ran on October 10 at the mulching facility on Florence Road, with paint and electronics no longer accepted there. Rutherford County residential use with proof of residency, closed on Thursdays, with Sunday limited to household garbage.
