Appliances are named in the city's heavy trash list, so a refrigerator, washer or stove goes out on the regular pickup day with the rest of the heavy trash for a single family residential address, and the same material is excluded from the regional hazardous waste events.

No per appliance fee is published for the curbside heavy trash route, while a contractor hauling the same unit to the municipal landfill is charged and a resident hauling their own single family load is not. Garbage Services provides residential garbage collection once a week, small yard waste collection once a week, used motor oil and oil filter collection once a week, and heavy trash collection once a week. Regular collection is route based, so the pickup day comes from Garbage Services on 409-842-1483. Containers must be curbside by 7 a.m. on collection day and removed by 8 p.m. the same day, and the city asks that they not be left out overnight. Ordinary garbage has to be inside the 96 gallon container: waste that is outside the container will not be collected and could result in a ticket and fine. The published list is large yard waste with limbs and branches up to eight feet long, tree trunks larger than twelve inches in diameter cut to a maximum two foot length, furniture and mattresses, appliances, and a maximum of four tires per year. Heavy trash from any other entity has to go to the landfill, and city crews do not collect heavy trash from businesses, churches, apartment buildings, construction sites or vacant lots.
