A few pieces, one pickup

Your room has changed. The old furniture can go.

Choose each piece

A table and four chairs are five items.

You don’t need to guess how much space your furniture fills in a truck. Match each piece to the catalog, then add its quantity. Your total updates as you go.

Tables and chairs

Choose the table, then add each chair separately. Coffee tables, side tables and dining tables have their own options. A large or substantially heavy table has a different choice.

Dressers and mirrors

Match the dresser’s overall size. Add a separate dresser mirror as its own item if it is leaving too. Empty drawers and keep the belongings you want before moving the dresser outside.

Desks and bookshelves

Choose by construction, not height alone. A basic desk is different from a heavy desk with a substantial body. A tall, lightweight bookcase can still be a standard bookshelf. Empty it first.

Couches, sofas and household furniture

Accepted with preparation

Furniture is named among the heavy items the litter truck takes on the regular trash day, so no separate appointment is needed.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Galveston residential accounts, where every residential address is required to carry city trash service, for furniture set at the curb or in the alley beside the cart on the regular collection day.
When & how
Put the furniture out by 7 AM on the regular collection day for the area, which runs Monday for the west end to 7 1/2 Mile Road, Tuesday to the east side of 51st Street, Wednesday to the east side of 31st Street, and Thursday to the East End. Carts and material may go out no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before.
Get it ready
Stack the piece beside the cart rather than in the travel lane, keep it clear of gas meters and mailboxes, and leave cushions and glass tops off so the litter crew can lift the frame.

Four route days across the island

Galveston splits its collection week by area: Monday serves the west end of the island to 7 1/2 Mile Road, Tuesday runs from 7 1/2 Mile Road to the east side of 51st Street, Wednesday covers the west side of 51st Street to the east side of 31st Street, and Thursday runs from the west side of 31st Street to the East End. Carts and materials need to be at the curb no later than 7 AM on the collection day, the cart may go out no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before, and it comes back to its storage space by 10 p.m. on the day of pickup. Questions and cart requests go to Sanitation on 409-797-3630.

Bulk rides the regular truck, and freon units need a red tag first

Heavy items such as appliances, furniture and large piles of tree limbs and brush are collected on the regularly scheduled trash day, set at the curb or in the alley next to the trash cart, and a litter truck is sent through for them rather than a separate appointment. Freon appliances are the exception that stops the truck: the city requires the freon to be removed and tagged by a certified technician and the appliance to be red-tagged before Sanitation will remove it, so the work has to be arranged first and the tag has to be on the unit when it goes out.

Use the weekly bulk pickup with the trash cart

A Galveston household with furniture, a mattress, an appliance or a large pile of limbs and brush that can go beside the cart on the collection day.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Galveston residential accounts, which must carry city trash service, with the bulk material set at the curb or in the alley next to the cart on the regular collection day.
Arrange it
Put the material out by 7 AM on the collection day for the area, and keep the cart itself off the curb until after 5 p.m. the previous day.

Freon appliances need certified removal and a red tag before collection, and paint, gasoline, kerosene, concrete, freon and tires are refused at the transfer station, so they cannot simply be added to a bulk pile.

Use the free April citywide cleanup

A Galveston household timing a cleanout to the spring cleanup so furniture, mattresses, couches and bagged yard debris leave at no charge.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Galveston residents inside the city, for the free bulk pickup dates by area and the free transfer station access from April 15 to 30 with a current utility bill and photo ID.
Arrange it
Put the items out on the published cleanup date for the section, or use the free transfer station access window, and check the shred day and the oil and tire drop-off dates at the recycle center.

The cleanup runs one month a year rather than all year, the dates are tied to the part of the island, and proof of residency is required for the free access and the tire drop-off.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self hauling in Galveston means two city sites. The transfer station at 5515 Harborside Drive takes building materials, roofing materials and items that will not fit the garbage cart from residents who are cleaning up between trash days, one trip a month with up to 1,000 pounds, Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 4:45 PM and Saturday 7:00 AM to 11:45 AM, with a current water bill and proper identification and a hard hat and vest worn on site, which the BFI landfill sells if you do not have them. It refuses combustible materials, compressed aerosol cans that are not empty, concrete, freon, gasoline, kerosene, paint and tires, and it publishes no fee of its own even though the spring cleanup advertises free access for two weeks. The recycle center at 702 61st Street takes recyclables around the clock with staff from 8 AM to 4:45 PM, plus cooking oils and grease, and tires and used oils from residents who show proof of residency such as a driver's licence. Elderly and disabled residents can also register on 409-797-3630 for a monthly home collection of recyclables and receive a 14-gallon blue bin at no charge. Choose the type and size of each piece to see its price. For example, a medium dresser is $79 as the first item or $29 as an additional item. Your total starts with the highest first-item price in your selection, then uses the additional-item price for every other item. Review the complete total and any applicable tax before payment.

Can I get same-day furniture pickup in Galveston?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup and choose from the dates shown at checkout. Arrange to have the furniture outside according to your confirmation. You receive a text when your hauler is on the way and photos after collection.

Dropcurb starts outside. You arrange indoor carrying, including any interior stairs or elevator trip. We load and take away the furniture from an accessible outdoor location. Check your building’s rules and plan the route out before booking.

Can you take several different furniture items in one pickup?

Yes. Add each piece and its quantity to one booking. A dining table and four chairs are five items; a separate mirror is not included with a dresser. You can mix eligible items from different rooms and review their combined total before paying.
