Large appliances can be left at the curb for collection or dropped free in the scrap metal bin at the Drop-Off Recycling Center. The city names dryers, freezers, refrigerators, stoves, washers and water heaters, and adds microwaves, garbage disposals, dishwashers and air conditioners, with the instruction to remove contents and tape the doors shut.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. No charge at the curb as part of the appliance pile in the weekly brush and bulky collection, and no charge for a drop off in the scrap metal bin at the Drop-Off Recycling Center. Garland Sanitation collects appliances for scrap metal recycling through a process that removes harmful elements.
When & how
Put the appliance out with the separate appliance pile on the brush and bulky collection day, no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before, or take it to the scrap metal bin at the recycling center.
Get it ready
Empty the unit and tape or tie the doors shut, or remove a refrigerator door entirely, because the city requires that for safety. Keep appliances in their own pile at least four feet from the brush, bulky and landscape piles, and consider donating a working appliance through a charity before setting it out.
Bulky items go out no earlier than 6 p.m. on the day before the collection and before 7 a.m. on the collection day, as their own pile and never mixed with other solid waste, while tree limbs may go out any day. Keep brush, bulky waste, appliances and bagged landscape material in four separate piles at least four feet apart, keep every item, bag, box and bundle at forty pounds or less, and move any vehicle that blocks a pile because blocked material is not collected.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Use the weekly brush and bulky collection
A Garland household with furniture, a mattress, carpet, an appliance, or small remodeling material from its own property.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Included in the residential service with no separate curbside charge published. Material has to be generated by the resident at their own property, and construction and demolition waste from the resident's own remodeling may be set out only four times per calendar year.
Arrange it
Set the material out in separate piles at least four feet apart, no earlier than 6 p.m. the day before the collection and before 7 a.m. on the collection day, with every item, bag, box and bundle at forty pounds or less.
Tires, household chemicals, concrete, stone, brick, roofing materials, asphalt, rocks, dirt and pallets are refused at the curb, nothing over forty pounds is collected, glass has to be in a clearly marked cardboard box, and material has to come from the resident's own address.

No charge. No cost for a Garland resident hauling bulky waste material to the Transfer Station or the C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill, with a driver's license and a copy of the most current utility bill. A load arriving without a secured cover is assessed an additional charge under the city ordinance.
Arrange it
Tarp the load, bring the driver's license and the current utility bill, and deliver the material to the Transfer Station or to the C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill at 3175 Elm Grove Road in Rowlett.
Proof of residency is required, the tarp rule carries an additional charge under the city ordinance, and the Citizens' Convenience Center at the landfill takes only bulky goods and household trash, with fencing, dirt, dead animals and brick reserved for the working site.

The Citizens' Convenience Center is for residential customers only and accepts bulky goods and household trash, while fencing, dirt, dead animals and brick have to be taken to the working site instead. A resident has to show a driver's license and a copy of the most current utility bill, and a vehicle arriving without a suitable secured cover over the load is assessed an additional charge under the city ordinance.
Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the general public and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for automated commercial vehicles, Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all customers and closed Sunday; inclement weather can restrict access, so call 972-205-3670 before the trip.
No charge. No cost for a Garland or Sachse resident who hauls and unloads household waste from the home where the resident lives, with a current driver's license and a recent city utility bill. Without proof of residency the load draws a non-refundable fee with a fifty dollar minimum. Rowlett residents dispose free twice a calendar year with a Landfill Pass, while loads from non-Garland residents, private haulers or commercial accounts are charged by the ton with a required security deposit. An uncovered load carries an additional charge under the city ordinance.

Yes. Dropcurb pickup is separate from buying or installing a replacement, so you can book removal on its own.
