Freon appliances are refused in the curbside pile. Cobbs takes them with a technician's tag, or removes the refrigerant itself for a published fee, and the appliance then does not count against the bulky trips.
City cost & eligibility
$15 per appliance for refrigerant removal at the Cobbs Recycling Center when the unit does not already carry a label or tag showing that a certified technician removed the refrigerant, with the fee added to the next utility bill. Waco resident with a water bill within thirty days of its due date showing a Waco residential service address and trash charge, plus a photo identification whose address matches. Appliances are recycled and do not count toward the four free bulky drop-off trips.
When & how
Take the unit to Cobbs on Trice Avenue between Monday and Saturday, 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and keep in mind the bulky and brush bays close at 4:45 p.m.
Get it ready
Empty and defrost the unit for transport. A unit that already carries a tag from a certified technician is taken without the removal fee, and a unit without one is charged the published removal fee on the next utility bill. Do not put a Freon appliance in the curbside bulky pile, because the city refuses it there.
A household with curbside service gets one bulky waste pickup each month, and it has to be requested in advance through the city form or the Waco curbside app. The pickup itself adds nothing to the bill, but a pile larger than six by six by six feet is quoted at an extra charge, and a pile that does not meet the requirements leaves the household with the estimated fee instead of a collection.
Keep the pile clear, separated and inside the size limit
